January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

Recommended Posts

I have my surgery date, January 8 at St. Vincent's Southside (formerly St. Luke's and half the city still calls it that). I'm both excited and nervous. :)

My mom gave me a lovely Ninja blender for Christmas for making Protein Shakes. I had been making do with an immersion blender she gave me years ago when she upgraded to a nicer one, which is how I have half my kitchen implements.

I start my preop diet in the morning.

Best of luck to everybody, and I hope y'all had a good Christmas if you Celebrate it.

Hi Fellow Sleevers,

I was approved and date is set for 1/29...super excited! I was originally scheduled for December but my mom fell ill so I had to reschedule. I love in Sunny South Florida and my surgeon is Dr Brett Cohen with Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. Any other 1/29 and/or South Florida Sleevers?? I have a one week Pre-op diet (3 shakes a day and I can have 1-2 low cal Dannon Greek yogurts (nervous about the preop diet). Excited for this journey and thrilled to have this support system!! :-)

Howdy! I'm Deb and I just joined your forum. I've been himming and hawing about getting a revision from lap band to sleeve for the last six months. Finally decided to go for it. My insurance (TriCare) doesn't cover the sleeve, so my DH and I are sucking it up and going the cash pay route. Assuming my nutritionist consult gets scheduled, my psych evaluation approved, and my medical clearance granted, I'm scheduled for first thing Wednesday morning January 8th at North Vista Hospital in Las Vegas. My surgeon is Dr. Bernie Hanna.

I had the lap band put in January of 2008. I've been a flop at using the tool, moved 3 months postop after losing 21 lbs. Discovered that I really had no restriction and could easily tolerate carbonated beverages and went back to my old habits. So, almost 6 years later I weigh 10 lbs more than surgery date in 2008! :-( I'm regaining control and going for it.

I'm reading alot about preop diets of 1 or 2 weeks. Dr. Hanna just wants me on liquids starting 2 days preop.

Cheers!

Deb

p.s. I selected a ticker, but can't figure out how to attach it to my post...

I know...my date is jan 6 and started my 2 week Monday. Supposed to be 5 shakes a day and Water and broth in between. I'm going nuts too. Can barely get 3 shakes down. I'm thinking of a grilled chicken and vegetable dinner tonight. No carbs. Would that be a terrible idea?

Our surgery is on the same day. I have to drink a Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch. At dinner I have to eat a salad with Protein such as fish, egg, or chicken. Light, fat free or oil and vinegar dressing. 3 days before surgery I have to take a laxative and go on a all clear liquid diet with at least 2 shakes a day.

I have noticed all doctors are different with the pre op diet. My friend is getting sleeve 2 days after me and she does not have to do a pre op diet at all. So my advise to you is just follow your doctors orders.

Also the shakes make me sick and gives me the runs :(

I'm starting preop Monday - only 1400 calorie diet required but I'm going to do full liquids with a small plain salad daily til surgery. Also going to work out 3-4 days a week.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
