6 Weeks Post Op & 1St Fill With Zero Pain! What A Surprise :)

Recommended Posts

I was so nervous going into my doc's office today for my fill. Well his nurses forgot to tell me not to eat anything before I got there, thank goodness it was a very busy morning and I didn't have a chance to eat a thing - I grabbed some egg salad from the deli in the doc office building and when I got to his office I opened up the container and was just about to nibble my 4 oz of egg salad when a gal, who had been banded in April, and I began to chat and I told her I was there for my 1st fill and she yelps - "you can't eat anything!!!" - phew, that was close.

so I go in and unfortunately the scale didn't move much in a month - only 4lbs (that's the bummer news) but the good news is that the fill didn't hurt one bit - not even a little snag of a pain. He giggled when I asked him if he was going to numb the area - he said he used to but the numbing needle and solution stung more than the fill needle he just stopped doing it - well I can see why! Plus he does it himself - he's the expert and leaves this stuff to himself, no PA no one else but him - he's done it 10,000+ times. Now I cannot wait to go in for fill #2!

He put in 4cc's into my 11cc band and I go back on Jan 6th - one month or 5 weeks from today. He believes in the Green Zone but he said when he designates that I'm in the green zone, no one else, not even me. I like how controlling and accountable my doc is and I like that he remembered all of my issues from the last appointment.

We all have such different experiences - I've been reading so much on here - but honestly this is SO personal in a sea of people who fight the same battles everyday. So happy to be here on this forum!

Cheers y'all :)

So, since you were unaware of pre-fill instructions, you do know that you should be on liquids for 24 hours and then mushies for 24 hours after the fill? Or, whatever protocol your doctor gave you?

Looks like you've lost 12 lbs which is the same I lost after surgery for the first 4 months. I'd love to continue losing 4 lbs a month even now. After that first wave of weight loss is over, you probably will see about 4-8 lbs a month if you're good. Tough month to stay good though?? I had surgery 11/28/11 but the first 30 days weren't nearly as bad as I thought. It's the phase after the first 30 days is over that was hard for me. Good luck. Be good  Happy Holidays!

I will be getting my first fill next week. Good to know it doesn't hurt! My problem is that it's been 4 1/2 weeks since surgery. I lost 15 lbs right away, but it feels like I can eat alot more now so the weight loss has stopped for 2 weeks. What's up?

Another Bandster hell victim? Like I said, I lost 12 the first two weeks and then nothing the next 3.5 months. I was in Bandster hell for 3 months. BH is where your band has not been adjusted to give you the restriction or satiety to avoid being hungry all the time. It took me 3 fills to start to feel satiety and 6 fills and 7 months to find the green zone.

You're following a very normal, typical pattern that so many before you have traveled. This will be just another diet till you find restriction with the right fill.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
