What To Expect When They Wake Me Up In Recovery!

Recommended Posts

Guys my surgery is coming up soon, December 16th. I really would like to know from the experts, What it feels like when you wake up from surgery?

1 Will my mouth be dry?

2 Will I be in pain?

3.Will I be out of it?

4 Will I hurt all over?

5. For you more mature women, will I wake up to a Hot Flash? (My last surgery I did and it was bad.)

6 Will I be cold?

7 Will I have a headache?

8 Will my blood Pressure be high?

Please let me know I want to know what could happen or what to expect. Thanks you. Your help will be much appreciated.

It varies a lot from person to person...I had an EXTREMELY dry mouth and was a little woozy (slept off and on the first few hours then once anesthesia wire off that was gone). The first night I had almost no pain at all, anywhere (yay for good drugs!!!). I don't remember being cold but I was bundled up. Really, wasn't a bad surgery at all for me, hope yours is just as easy!

All I remember is waking up in the recovery room and looking over and there was an old lady next to me that looked dead.... my drugs were making me pretty carefree and I remember thinking... huh, not my problem.... sounds cold but I blame the drugs

You are completely over-thinking this! RELAX!!

Everyone's experience is different. The hospital staff will do their best to see that you are comfortable.

No, I am not over thinking. I am a person that investigate and want to be prepared for whatever, that's just me. This not my first or second surgery. I am pretty much going to have to do this alone. I want to know what to expect.

I don't remember waking up in recovery, although I must have. The first thing I remember is being in my room. I was very tired. I went for a short walk (with help), then went to sleep.

I also remember being a little nauseous. There was no pain or discomfort. I had a serious case of cotton-mouth. :-)

I did have dry mouth. No pain or discomfort until early the next morning. I had cramps really bad and the pain meds made me nauseous. I had gynecologic surgery at the same time. If it wasn't for the cramps I don't think I would've had any discomfort.

I was in recovery for a long time (4hrs) before I was moved to my room but I don't remember anything until I got to my room and saw my husband. I had a mild freak out because my son wasn't there. He had gone home to be with my young children.

I'm sorry you'll be alone. Hopefully, the nursing staff will be very attentive to your needs. Get plenty of rest and everything should be great. Good luck!

It will likely be similar to how you felt with your other surgery. Most people tend to have the same or similar reactions as to their prior surgeries. Relax! You won't remember much about this time anyway! ;) Best wishes!

I don't remember much until I got to the floor. I briefly remember waking up and seeing other beds with people but I just wanted to sleep. After sleeping for a few hours I was up and walking. I was pretty comfortable with my pain pump and every time I walked I got further and further. My oxygen dipped low at 1st but I had severe sleep apnea.

1. My mouth was crazy dry and they wouldn't give me anything for a few hours. Using Chapstick helped a lot and so did brushing my teeth after a couple hours.

2. Initially in recovery I wasn't in any pain, but a few hours later I had some of the worst pain I've ever felt. Some Morphine diminished it and the nurse called the doc and got me an increased dose, and I was all good.

3. I wasn't out of it at all. Once I woke up in recovery I was pretty much awake until the pain meds made me sleepy again.

4. I didn't hurt all over, it was pretty localized to my abdomen.

5. Can't answer this one.

6. I wasn't hot or cold, I was comfortable.

7. No headache here.

8. My BP was low, but it always is.

GOOD LUCK! You'll do great!

Don't remember it, only going down the hall.

Yes, mine was dry and eventually gave me sponges

No, I wasn't in pain.

Yes, I was very sleepy but was burping.

No pain other a little stinging at surgical wounds and felt the gas on chest.

No hot flashes.

Not cold but was bundled up.

I did have headache and nauseous, but that's how anesthesia effects me even though they did what they could to limit it.

Blood pressure low.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
