Nearly 2 Wks Post Op ...

Recommended Posts

And I'm doing great! I was sleeved on Nov. 18. I will admit, the 2 days in the hospital were tough. I also had a hernia repair. Came home and tolerated Clear Liquids really well. No nausea, gas wasn't an issue, and no throwing up. Weighed myself this morning and I'm down 27 lbs. Moved right out if the 300's! Moved to Premiere Protein Shakes this week and they have not settled well with me. Finding that soy milk is working better. Those of you that were lactose intolerant after surgery, did it eventually go away or is this going to be a forever thing?

Glad to hear you're doing so well! The lactose intolerance thing is tricky. I think over time, as you establish better colonies of bacteria in your gut, there's a chance you could get over it. I was already lactose intolerant even before the sleeve so I'm not the best person to answer this since I assume I will always have it, but even for me, it appears to be lessening back to pre-sleeve levels slowly.

Also pre and post op, we're consuming a LOT of lactose in all those shakes. I now do 2 shakes a day and it's much more tolerable.

Keep up the liquids and rest as much as you can. And congratulations :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
