Problems Going Early To Stages

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 11/8, about 3 weeks. I've eaten a few things that are not full fluids. I am suppose to go to puree next week and then mushy. I've eaten a few things early and chewed really well. Tonight I had a scrambled egg, chewed and ate slowly. What is the real problem with advancing stages too soon? I know I'm not suppose to but I really feel great and things don't seem to be causing me problems. Thoughts appreciated. Thanks

Try to consider your new stomach as a new baby that has to be progressed SLOWLY. The food guidelines provided to us are to help our swollen and upset stomachs heal.

Can you get down a few bites that aren't allowed? Probably. Will it cause damage or be a problem? Maybe. Should you talk to your Doctor? ABSOLUTELY!

Try to stick to the diet so you heal properly and so that you don't being micro-stretching your stomach. The name of the game is to eat until full and not a drop more. That way you'll always fill up faster. If you stretch it out, you're going to run into plateaus and possible future weight gain.

Stick to the program. It was designed this way for a VERY specific purpose.

Just my 2 cents.

It's amazing how we all heal differently. I too had surgery Nov. 7th but I can't handle a scrambled egg. I can only handle soft cheese, cream of wheat and broth. And only about two tablespoons. I am supposed to progress to soft foods next week and there is no way. I am at least a few weeks from that. I can only eat things that are completely puréed to thin to med consistency. When're I have to chew something if it doesn't completely disappear before I swallow I have to spit it out. Ugh going slower than I thought!

My guidelines had me eating regular food by 3 weeks. You might be able to, but I highly suggest following your surgeons guidelines. We may have both had VSG surgery, but not all surgeons perform the procedure identically.

If you're still confident when your doc/nutritionist office opens up after the holiday, call and check. They might advance you. Good luck!

In the hospital, I was drinking faster than I should. The nurse told me that the reason you should not do this is because you will stretch your sleeve and stand a chance of tearing out the staples and causing a leak. I know it feels OK going down, but I am going to be very literal about following their instructions. No way do I want this thing to fail.

I'm 3 wks and 2days out. Dr appt yesterday @ 2:20. He said I was fine to eat what I wanted as long as it could be chewed to mush before I swallowed. I can try shredded lettuce in late December.

Why do you need to rush through your eating plan? You will have the rest of your life to eat what you want to. You greatly run the risk of a leak and possible death....................I guess this is your choice.

Your stomach is raw and in stress...It has not healed in the slightest at this point...When your stomach is finally healed which takes longer on the inside then the outside your tissue will envelope the staples and it will be extremely strong..Until then it is a chance we all take when we don't follow what our surgeon tells us..

I did follow what he said and still developed a leak.....A year of hell has followed that problem..

Ask yourself..is it worth it to rush a week or two weeks because you think you are ready for the next stage.?....It could happen anyway there is no guarantee but why push the envelope....Treat your sleeve like a baby and you will be glad the rest of your life that this short time of being better safe then sorry paid off......K

I'm 9 days post op and can have mushy foods. As my doctor told me the diet is generic and every body has a different healing process. If you are able to handle mushy foods before the generic diet says you can have it, just pick up the phone and have the conversation with you doctor and he may progress you to the next stage sooner. Don't be afraid of your sleeve based on others opinions....this is how many people go into starvation mode and look sickly with the sleeve because they are afraid to eat based on horror stories (not saying it can't happen, but according to statistics thus far it is rare).

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
