Any February 2014 Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

That's excellent CC!! You and Jen are really kickin it. Does the warmer liquids seem to go down easier than cold or does it matter?

Yes! I like the warmer liquids better than the cold and definitely the water! If I add some lemon juice to my Water I can drink it just not plain. The morphine made me achey and pukey after they took it away yesterday but much better today and at home!

I was so much better after they took me off the IV pain meds. I seem to like both the hot and cold liquids. Ice pops and broth have both been nice to my new tummy.

Well shame on your brothers for belittling you! And you WILL show them.

You rant all you want. This pre-op diet is so hard, I'm on day 12 and, while it has gotten easier, I definitely have my weak moments. And I literally dream about food. No lie.

Good luck and we'll be here for ya.

April

Good deal. I'll have to remember lemons when I go shopping. I'm reading that sometimes cold cramps up the new little sleeve so was seeing how it was with you. So glad you're doing better today.

Hey all! I go in to surgery Monday feb 17th at 11 AM! This clear liquid diet is a little harder than my 2 week preop diet! It's kicking my butt at the moment! Got out for a little bit And did some shopping. Resting at home now, first thing when I turned my tv on was a restaurant commercial!!! Ughh!! Is it Monday yet ?? Lol

Hi Glad I found this thread.....i am on day 4 of pre op diet. Surgery 25th. Cannot believe it has been 8 months since I started down this slope! Almost there!! You all keep posting after your surgeries so i know what to expect....i really am in disbelief that I am almost there. The liquid diet keeps reminding me this is real!

I have not shared this surgery with anyone but my husband. I know my brothers, who have never had a weight problem, would criticize and belittle me, as they always have, because of my weight. One brother even made fun of our mom because she was heavy. He was always trying to tell her what to eat, then tell everyone about all the bad food in her cupboards. Well, mom passed away a short while ago( COPD), and am I here, big as life, to make my brothers eat crow! I will be thin AND healthy! You know, the funny thing about my critical brothers, is they both thought their personal appearances were important enough to have rhinoplastic surgery (nose jobs) in their twenties. I, however thankfully, was blessed with a cute, albiet fat, little nose..... I am having weight loss surgery to be stronger and healthier. If I happen to look good as a result, what a bonus!! Sorry for the rant. I must be in the liquid pre-op diet crazy stage! Keep posting folks! It is soooo encouraging!

Good for you! We have surgery the same day!

Pretty good. I have had a little bit of gas pains today but I'm moving around a lot which does help. I will say a prayer for you Monday. It's almost here. Remember, surgery is the easy part. Lol. The recovery is the hard part! It's been tough not being able to pick up my daughter. She just doesn't understand. She just threw a mini-fit at my feet. I just have to stand or sit there until my husband can get her. Poor baby :(

SuperFab which unflavored Protein do you use? I know you've mentioned it before. I have the Bariatric Advantage (I know you can't use that) and I like theirs but its slightly sweet. So I can't mix it with savory things, like that oh so fabulous chicken broth. Lol.

Glad to hear you are doing Good!! I am sure as the days pass it will get easier and easier for you!! Thank you in advance for the little prayer! I definitely appreciate it! I have never had any surgery so I just have experiences from you guys to go by! The endoscopy was the most I have really had to do medically. Awww your poor little one! I am a preschool teacher so I totally understand sometimes they just need some extra love. My surgeon has given me strict directions to not pick up any kids or anything like that.. so I totally understand :)

Guys. I cheated tonight. With broccoli. Hahahahaha. It was the best broccoli I've ever had! Even though it was plain and boring.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
