Any February 2014 Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Yeah I hear u. I stood back from class last week and lucky enough the schedule was one of those wacky ones where one of my days was canceled already so I only missed 2 days of one class class and 2 days of another class. They already are going going to excuse the absence but I'm not in nursing school I know it's harder to miss those classes. But I'm taking writing and it's a lot too so I keep up on the side. I just was afraid of walking the whole campus and sitting in those chairs for 3 hours and being super uncomfortable.

At least the worst is over, right?

I hope so!! :)

And yeah. I scheduled surgery 2 days before spring break started, so I only missed 2 classes. I just don't want to miss any more.

Hi everyone. I have been reading this thread and it is interesting to see how differently everyone recovers and the diets their Drs have them on. I was sleeved on the 10th of February. Was on Clear Liquids first week and have been on full liquids Protein Shakes and strained Soups for the past two weeks. I am excited to say I have lost 35 lbs and am moving on to puréed foods Monday. Searched the net for a bunch of recipes and bought all my items today for my next stage. Protein intake has been the difficult part for me. So glad their are others to follow and read progressions on. Good luck to everyone through this journey.

Congrats and welcome !!!! I'm on pureed but I have been eating fish with my dinner. I'm slowly adding new items but not all at once. My nut said that was ok as long as I am able to tolerate it.

I found that the easiest way tot get my protein is scrambled egg for Breakfast and Protein Shake throughout the day --I make mine with frozen fruit or fresh mango, a piece of banana, non fat Greek yogurt, some unsweetened almond milk and a scoop of vanilla cream Protein Powder. It has so much protein and its smooth enough and counts towards the liquid intake. I am in love with this smoothie. That's the easiest way for me to get close to my mark.

Good luck!!

Sammy thanks for the insight on the Protein Shake it sounds yummy and right up my alley. I must have found a dozen or so recipes in my search for my "stage 3 diet". I have 2 weeks of puréed foods with 60-80 grams of Protein to get in. I move on to soft foods and 90 grams of protein after. I have had a pretty easy go of the stages thus far. Just learning when I am full and how much to have vs not have when drinking. I don't have the typical medical issues that come with obesity. I have low blood pressure, normal cholesterol and normal sugar. I considered myself a pretty healthy eater. It was the quantity of healthy food that has done me in and my lupus which consists of lots of steroids when put of remission. Protein makes you feel fuller so any advice I can get on making sure I get my protein amounts in I am going to try. Thanks again!

Awesome! And I'm sorry to hear about the lupus. I as well don't have any illnesses that come with obesity. I was was a snacker and a late night snacker. I didn't care for the 3 meals a day bc I would prefer Snacks. This has been ala struggle bc I have over eaten a few times I'm still trying to understand the full feeling. And at night I try to have a protein smoothie after dinner. It's my last effort for liquid and and also protein. And to make my sweet tooth at night happy I found out that the bags of frozen fruit has been such an exciting thrill to eat as a snack. Last night I has a few frozen cherries and mango chunks. It's filling and u take a while to eat one of them. Just a fun tip.

Anybody else get really bad cramps right after you take a drink of something? It's making it really hard for me to get close to my liquid requirements :-/

Yes! And I also get what I call "pop rock" bubbles in my gut rumbling. My doc has people on purée food post op day #2, but I am laying off food for a couple of days. I also noticed cold things make me cramp, so room temp or warm. I am 4 days out now.

I just went and bought benefiber and colace for a stool softner. I just don't know if I should take one daily or not

My doc told me to take the Fiber daily until I add veggies back into my diet if that helps.

I am on much different diet than everyone else. I started purées on post op day 3. I start soft Proteins next Monday. It makes me feel like this isn't going to work. Like I love my dr and trust him, but I've literally cried over it to my husband that I'm already like eating food and a lot of people on here are still on liquids. I've been swallowing pain meds since my last day in the hospital. I'm just feeling like this isn't going to work.

Don't feel bad about your diet. My doc has had me on purée foods also. He did surgery on feb 27th and by sat had me taking cream of wheat. My doc has been doing weight loss surg for 20 years.

This is really hard but well worth it. I've lost 10.5 lbs since last Wednesday. Can't wait till I feel like I'm getting to eat. Yeah! I'm so glad I did this while I am young. I think age is a real benefit in my case.

Same. I've lost 13 lbs since monday. All this malarkey (even injuring myself now and hating life) has totally been worth it. I couldn't be happier with my choice to change my life. :)

Had a rough day today. Felt real sad when I got to the dinner table and started crying I guess the constant seeing the food I used to consume so much of of and then looking down at my big plate with a slither of baked chicken--I lost it. I had to put my little chicken piece in a smaller bowl and eat it away from the table. And I felt so bad for being rude to my family and leaving the table. I just never got this way before. It's been 12 days and I've been fine up until tonight. So I went to my room and continued my routine of getting ready for work tomorrow and I sipped on my Protein shake.

Hope it gets better tomorrow.

My advice is if you don't have them already, invest in some small bowls and plates. I had small plates, but not bowls. I got some a few days after coming home and realizing that my normal bowls made my half cup of Soup look like nothing. Much better in smaller bowls. :)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
