Hi everyone! My surgery was 2/26, 6 weeks out today. I only lost 13 pounds so far and I am not able to meet either Water or Protein requirement. I was a low BMI with heart disease & severe high blood pressure.. I am so discouraged right now, any advise??

Hi Nadine- don't get discouraged. Everyone responds differently; but you are losing. It will go down at different rates over time. With a low BMI it might go a little slower than others you see online. Just keep shooting for your protein and water goal; you'll get there eventually.

Hi Guys-

Checking in- been sick with a cold this week after a stomach bug the week before. Feeling ragged and weak, but hoping to rally today. I second the book, The Emotional First Aid Kit. Has helped me get my perspective right during the tough times these past few months.

6 week checkup was today. My surgeon was very pleased with my weightloss. Had nothing but praise for me. My underwear fall off now, I guess that's an NSV of sorts. Lol

I'm cleared to exercise with resistance now so I'm excited to work out my arms. It's funny, she said 45 min of a brisk walk burns more calories than running for 10 min. I'm def gonna do some fast power walking and starting yoga.

Looking and feeling better each day. Still can't drink anything room temp, has to be ice cold. Water brings on major nausea. Ugh.

Other than that I'm a happy camper :)

I can relate. I am super happy about my weightloss so far 37 total (27lbs post op) , but I am still trying to adjust to my new reflection. Everyone who has seen me, has told me I look great, but until I get used to it in my head I just feel a little in limbo. I guess like everything else, it'll take time to get used to it. The problem is that we will continue to lose weight so by the time you adjust the one image in your head of what your size is, you will be much smaller. BTW, For the first time since my surgery 2/28, I tried on the clothes I put away because they were too tight. All of them were super loose! I don't know what anyone else is doing, but I refuse to buy any new clothing. I feel like its a waste. Not sure how the summer is going to go. Guess I will be wearing baggy clothes. LOL but y'all wish me luck.

I actually did buy some clothes. Some smaller and some that I can fit into now. I bought leggings because all my jeans look so stupid and saggy in the wrong places haha i can't even tell u how happy I was to shop in the regular departments! Not plus size any more!!! :)

On a good note I'm down 55lbs! On a bad note I start back to work today and I already threw up on myself in the car... Apparently I can't take all my pills in the am before I drink a shake or eat...Good to know !!! Ugh!!!!!

Last night I was cramping. I've never cramped on my period like now. Ever. I was curled up cramping so bad that I broke down and took a dose of my liquid codeine. Yeah.... Big mistake. Huge mistake. About 20 min later I woke up to pain in my stomach so severe that I honestly thought I must have a leak n was going to go to the ER. before I went, I remembered taking that on an empty stomach. I staggered into my kitchen and ate about a quarter of a container of sugar free pudding. Within 5 minutes my pain was gone. You live and you learn. This was at 3:30 in the morning. Jeez, I guess I need to log that as a snack. I forgot to do that. Lol

I feel reeeeeeally fortunate. I started my period monday before I went to bed. I think its already pretty much done. I also had almost no cramps. However, Tuesday and yesterday it was SUPER heavy flow. Like, changing tampons every 3-4 hours. Regular or super ones. Which its never like that for me.

I also feel lucky that I can take the pain meds on an empty stomach with no problems. Glad it was an easy fix though!

It was every hour. I'd go through a super tampon AND the pad underneath. No exaggeration. I need to get that ablation done.

That's how mine were before surgery. I was shocked when I started my period RIGHT on schedule on the 17th because it was on time and I had no crazy cramping as a warning. Good luck Hun.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
