Another E-Mail Debunked

Oh, you must mean that the ones that were already in circulation are selling from individuals, like on EBay, right? Not that the government is selling them. That would be a good way for them to make a little extra money on us, huh?

Where the heck am I every time one of these dadblamed mistakes happens! Those coins will be worth a whole lot more than $50 one day! I am surprised they sold them, they usually gather them all back in, don't they?
Liberal atheists can have them for $50 a piece. Conservative Christians can't give them away.:faint:

Lord, my purse already is a lethal weapon due to the number of coins in my billfold. I like paper money. It's light! We used to get silver dollars in Wyoming when I was a kid. They weighed a ton. I just got through paying a whole lot of tax money to the government and the least they can do is try to keep my purse lighter. Ah have spoken as someone used to say in Lil Abner cartoons.

When someone starts boycotting money because it doesn't have "In God We Trust" on it, that is making a religious statement and it is more that showing that they are not ashamed to stand up for what they believe in. It is destroying the commerce of the country in order to get their way.

What are they saying that they are standing up for?

That they believe in God?

They can carry a Bible or wear a crucifix to stand up for that.

I believe people have to right to stand for what they believe...if they choose to boycott a coin that removes a certain phrase, it's up to them...they have the right not to use currency they find offensive.

If you are not an advocate of a particular groups stance, you can hardly tell that group HOW to make a stand for it. You can only state what kind of stand would be palatable to you personally.

Limiting conservative Christians to carrying a bible or crucifix to stand against removal of a Christian phrase on a coin...would be like limiting GLAD to wearing a Rainbow ribbon or T-shirt to stand for their equal rights. Just because you may feel that the 'equal rights' issue has more credibility and importance doesn't mean conservatives don't take their issues and threats to their rights just as seriously. Conservatives have the same rights to voice opinions and boycott what they find offensive as any liberal. Liberals aren't the only ones with voices and just because liberals would like conservatives to roll over and shut up, doesn't mean they will.

I hardly believe that boycotting a coin would destroy commerce of the country. sheeesh... WOW, just perhaps it MIGHT cause the government to...oh I don't know...apologize and put the phrase back on the coin?? WOW, wouldn't that be something...someone stands for what they believe and gets results? Imagin that! :success1:

Either way, I wouldn't have been surprised if they did remove it from the coin and I wouldn't have boycotted the currency had they done that. I would have accepted it as an inevitable sign of the times.

How is leaving off the phrase "In God We Trust" threatening anyone's rights? I can understand how some people find it distasteful to make that kind of change, especially nowadays when there is such a right-wing movement to fight against anything that doesn't pledge that God is part of the United States Government. But I don't understand how it does anything to abridge anyone's rights.

I thought this was all settled and everyone knew that it was an error that has resulted in a recall of those coins? I have one of these new dollar coins and it clearly has "In God We Trust" on it.

...they have the right not to use currency they find offensive.
I wonder if objects that don't have religious inferences on them are really offensive to any group that would protest the currency.

No, that's not a challenge, it's truly just a wonder. It got me thinking.

I was responding to the suggestion in the e-mail and was making the reference because all our money has religious words on it, so atheists for example, can't boycott money with religious statements, so we would have to take "In God we trust" off of all the money to get an equal situation.

I guess I didn't explain myself as clearly as I wanted to.

I love Snopes.com I check out urban legends there often.

Those dollars are indeed missing the logo but it was a mint error. They are going on eBay for upwards of $200. The re-issue has the correction.

OOOOOHHH OK...I gotcha now. Yes I would agree that boycotting using all money would be a rediculous response. I misunderstood you. Thanks for clearing that up for me TOM :(

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
