Wow.... Nerves setting in now. After a 6 month waiting period, December 9th is my official sleeve date. My surgeon requires a week of liquids prior to surgery so I will start that dec2. One last thanksgiving feast! Lol I can't stop reading the threads under the complications forum though! Why do I torture myself! Getting pretty damn nervous. Prayers!!

Any suggestions about what to bring to the hospital? Think I'll be there a couple nights.

I was just sleeved on 11/22 what you are doing is normal my second job was looking on the forms. I second guessed myself up too the time they took me to be sleeved, when I came out I cried asking what did I do to myself. I will be 100 percent with you it was not and still is not easy but after 4 days of horrible gas pains today I am feeling better. I have a husband and kids that I still most cook for and that is the hard part ( while I am here in the 1st place) my tummy says no but my mind says yes, so once again I am on the forms daily keeping my mind focused on what is important health and feeling good for my family. I wish you all the luck

My sleeve was October 24th. I had a breeze of a time! No pain, no nausea, lots of energy after surgery. It is all in Attitude!!!!!

After puree, I went onto regular eating bypassing the mushy stage. Take a book, Kindle, cell phone or computer with you to hospital and your own gown. Good luck!!!!

Felicia, thanks for your honesty. For me, I am also worried I will regret it. My mom just says, "Ashley, you don't have to do this." And even though this is elective, yes, I feel like if I don't do this I will never be successful in weight loss. I do have a supportive boyfriend who is up for helping me out after. Was there anything special you brought to the hospital or anything you wish you would've brought? I spent 100 bucks at Walmart today on stuff for hospital and postop. :)

In my prayers you are. I was trying to look for the complication forum for the sleeve myself....can't find it, only see the one for bypass patients. Where is it?

I'm having a food funeral this weekend...exciting! Going into town for a night out and a fancy hotel. Gonna find the best pizza place in Seattle and enjoy because it'll be a very long time before that'll happen again. I gotta do something to shake my anxiety about the surgery. I tell my patients all the time that planning a fun event can help to take their focus away from a scary procedure. Then liquids start Monday! Even though I've been watching a lot of videos and reading forum about complications, oddly I feel a little more settled about it all. At some point I have to get to acceptance stage....almost there! Happy thanksgiving all!

Good Luck, this will be one of the best things you'll ever do, I'm a month and a half out, 30 pounds down, and loving every minute of it. I would say don't even think to much about what to bring to the hospital, I slept 90% of the time, since those pain meds really kicked my butt. You leave in the clothes you came in, and I never changed out of the gown while I was there.

I can't have food funerals. I have to constantly weigh in every week and submit food journals or my surgeon will cancel surgery. It sucks cause I keep cheating! My biggest fear now is my surgery being canceled. I just get so hungry :(

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
