Thinking Of Lapband In Nj..but Have Insurance Concerns..help!

Recommended Posts

So i contacted my insurance company and was told as long as the doctor is IN NETWORK and I meet the criteria the lapband surgery is covered 100%

My only concern is that I have read some reviews from people who used one of the doctors I am thinking about using and there were some complaints that even though they surgery was covered, they received bills AFTER the surgery for people who "assisted", etc. she was upset because she said she asked in advance if there was anyone else she would receive bills from that she was responsible for and the DOCTOR had told her that he didnt use uninsured assistants so now she is stuck with a 4,000 bill.....

so my question is: has anyone else experienced this? did you get bills after surgery that was not covered?

Thank you for all your input!!!!

My surgery was covered but after a period of time my fills and other appointments have a co-payment.

As for your situation I would get your doctor to give you a detailed cost list including any hospital charges and I would also would contact the hospital and talk to them about costs also

Where are you looking to have the procedure done and with whom?

My surgery coordinator said that everything would be taken care of for my procedure...and I trusted her. There's been some hiccups, and I've received bills that were unexpected, but things are working out okay at this point and I have had most of them "forgiven" at this point.

I will say that it has contributed heavily to my soured opinion of the practice and I've considered looking for someone else to go to for long-term follow-ups. With everything else going on for me though, I'll just keep grudgingly going and figure it out some other time when time lets me.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
