Hungry, But Not Interested In Food

Recommended Posts

48 days post surgery and I've been doing great with eating so far then all of a sudden, NOTHING is appealing to me. Not eggs, not Soup, not Protein Shakes, not yogurt, not tea.....NUFFIN'

I am hungry and LOW energy and feeling sick from not getting my calories and Protein in. My nut just says, do your best and gives me suggestions and tells me to get my Water in as best I can. I just feel awful thinking, will it normalize, is it a phase?

I am responding more from my pre than post op experience, which is only four days, but my experience with "nothing appealing" is that it does come and go. When I was eating any and every carb, it seemed very rare. However, during pre op it really struck me when I had a disinterest in food of any sort! This was a really new experience for me, and maybe not a bad thing, because it didn't last forever. I have been observing/studying eating behaviors of my "normal" weight friends, and it does not seem unusual for them to have these periods...

I have decided to take those times as gift. It is really freeing NOT to be so food focused. As long as you (and your professional support) are monitoring, I wonder if it isn't an opportunity to explore a new aspect of relating to food?

I am almost 4 weeks out and find the same thing. I try using proti Fruit Drinks (sort of like crystal light but with protein). I like the concentrate better than the packets cause the packets can get gritty. The concentrate is a bit sweet so I mix one to 16 oz of Water - gives you 15g of Protein. you can buy from Amazon.

I really like this point of view, thank you.

Oh man, I'm so jealous! I WISH I still had no interest in food, I think that was my favorite part of the honeymoon phase, I felt so strong, so victorious! Like I had finally conquered food :) It opened up my mind to how much there is to do out there besides eat, I learned a lot about myself during that period.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
