Recommended Posts

Uhhhggg. I feel like I have a cold coming on and I am suppose to be banded next Tuesday. I don't want to be turned away for being sick!! Does anyone know what is ok to take to get rid of the muck just before surgery?

Better call your surgeon's office and talk to them. Their main considerations will be fever and if your lungs are clear. At worst you will have to reschedule when you have recovered. They want to do surgery when you are in the best health possible to lower the risk of complications for you. :)

Thanks Icy,

I emailed my patient facilitator so I'm sure she will get back to me in the morning. I definitely wouldn't want to go through with the surgery if my body is weak. I just know they told me not to take things like aspirin or ibuprofen this week but was hoping I could do something like Tylenol cold. I have stuck to hot tea and honey for now and some Vitamin c drops. It could just be allergies too.

Hope you feel better, Bobbie. You did the right thing calling it in -- they will work with you to determine whether it's better to wait a bit or go forward. Do you like chicken broth and hot sauce or ginger, etc? Might want to stay clear of dairy, which can be mucus-forming....get well soon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
