Is This Reasonable? Realistic?

Recommended Posts

So I was trying to set some long-term goals and trying to see what would be reasonable. So I went back and tracked my loss by month. In the first month I lost 27 pounds, in the 2nd I lost 16 pounds. If I was able to continue the 16lb/month loss, I would be well under my ultimate weight loss goal in May, which would be 9 months post op.

Do you think that is reasonable? I don't want to set myself up for disappointment and discouragement, but at the same time, I want something to motivate and push me.

The weight loss slows down the further out you get. In my Facebook group of March sleevers most of us women have slowed down and are struggling with the last 20 or so pounds.

Most people that have more to lose, seem to lose it faster. If you don't have as much to lose then lots of people say it goes a bit slower.

As for myself, I was losing at a pretty good clip for the first 6 months and I have 25 to go. I have not lost any weight in the last 3 months but have lost an entire size. I'm sure I am building muscle. I work out 3-4 times a week.

I think your body is going to do what it does. As long as you follow your surgeon and NUT plan you can't go wrong, it just may not be as fast as we would like.

Good luck, you will rock your sleeve! :)

Thanks! I knew it slowed down a bit at some point, but I wasn't sure exactly when that was, and it's probably different for everyone.

I think I would shoot for 10lbs a month and if you end up losing more then it's just a bonus!

I too am wondering about this. Part of it is that I am cranky that I've been hovering (not stalling; I don't want to say stalling) at the same weight for about a week.

I've lost about 26 pounds since surgery, and that was a month ago. I am having trouble seeing how I will ever lose 10 pounds in a month with a week of hovering.

Which makes me, oh, exactly like everyone else.

I'm in the same boat. 5.5 weeks postop and have lost 16 since surgery (had lost 10 lbs additionally during 4-days of preop liquids, so really have lost 26 lbs in the last 6 week. Considering I had a major STALL (I'll say it! lol) for 12 days at 216-217 lbs, I'd say that's still pretty damn good. But, realistically, I expect to lose 10-12 lbs a month from here on out, even with my addition of a home gym and continued long walks with the dog several times a day. Patience is NOT my greatest virtue but am trying to be realistic every day that I get on the scale. And I keep telling myself, if I lost it any faster, would look like a deflated Gummy BEAR! lolol

I find that looking at it in percentage lost rather than lbs lost helps when i am trying to project where i will be in the future. I average a 1.3% loss per week, which equaled more lbs when i was 289 vs where i am now at 202. That being said, i do find that my average % is going down the further out i get. I dont give a flip, so long as i am not gaining weight! I work in accounting so the number analysis is interesting to me, but I dont live or die by it. The thing that blows my mind is thinking that it is within my power to get to goal and be a healthy weight and stay there! Dont care how long it takes, so long as I keep myself from going back to where I started :)

I lost about 30 pounds the first month, 15 the second month and then had several months of losing 8 pounds, it went down again to about 4 pounds. I also had several months without a loss.

Currently, I fluctuate two to three pounds. I am not really losing.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
