Tightness In Chest

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill on Monday and ever since I have had a tight feeling in my chest. I'll also get a sharp pain in my back. Not so much in my shoulder like when I had my surgery. Is it just sore from the fill?

food is going down ok. I need to practice eating slower. After so many years of eating fast sometimes I forget.

I'm no doctor so I can't tell you for sure what's causing it but I would try concentrating on smaller bites, chewing more, and slowing down. You might find the problem is simply re-learning how to eat with the band. It's a big learning curve and takes some time to adjust to- and it'll change after every fill too.

Hang in there.

I've been trying some eating with the clock. We've had a few lunches together. My goal is to take a small bit every minute. It's amazing how long a minute is! I have found I don't want to put the utensil down so I'm working on that. I out it down and then let myself pick it up again but empty. Breaking that cycle of loading the fork/spoon with the next bite as soon as I've had the last one. So I put down the fork and move my hand away, wait, then pick it up empty, put it to my mouth and put it down again, take my hand away. I resist this and am noticing those places of resistance so I can break the habit of shoveling food in. Then I finally load the fork and when a minute has elapsed I have that bite. It's great mindfulness practice.

Well, I am not your surgeon, but my surgeon suggests 2 days clear and 2 days full liquids. So, if you did that, today would be full liquids and not solids. MAybe try going back to liquids to see if that calms the problem.

(by the way, your pains sound alot like I felt when I had a gallbladder attack)!! Best wishes, Karen

This pain is typical after every fill for me.

Give it a few days, if u can tolerate it, it goes away as your restriction will eventually diminish over time

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
