I'm banded

Recommended Posts

Well it's Monday afternoon and I am home, band fitted. They unfortunately couldn't fit the telemetric band which I wanted as they said my stomach was too small. Aparently the telemetric band is a large band and they wouldn't have been able to close it enough to give me any restriction so the surgeon thought it would be better to fit the normal lapband and the bonus was I get £1000 refund!!!

I'm very swolen and bruised but not in any pain and am amazed at how much I have drunk since the op. Seemed to drink glass after glass of Water and orange juice, cups of tea [the coffee in the hospital was far too strong] and had consomme for lunch today. Back on the coffee now I am home. I was given my 'menu' for the next 3 weeks. I can drink any liquids I want plus Protein shakes as long as I make them really thin with either milk or Water, clear Soups or even yoghurt if it is blended with milk to make it thin. Tea, coffee, unsweetened juices and water.

So glad it is done.

Yes I have a low BMI and only about 37lbs to lose - I have managed to keep off some of the weight I lost when I had the gastric balloon. However I have high blood pressure and terrible knee and hip joint pain. So the surgeon still thinks I will benefit from losing the weight. I am in the UK and had it done in Manchester. Mr Ashton was the surgeon - he is fabulous.

Congrats on getting a band!! Hope you continue to have an easy recovery.

Word of caution if the surgeon's office didn't tell you about it yet, but after you are able to take food in, you'll want to avoid the juices because of the high calories.

No they meant the zero calorie unsweetened juices. Although I don't drink much juice as a rule - prefer flavoured zero cal Water.

Feeling much better this morning although had to sleep almost sitting up - only way to get comfy but great to be back in my own bed. Seem to have a lot of trapped wind this morning and very swollen and very sore but managing to drink everything I'm supposed to without any problems.

Looking forward to a summer of wearing shorts!!!!!!!!

I am suffering so much with trapped wind pains. I am black and blue with bruising and I am so swollen I look about 8 months pregnant!!!

sleeping Ok but very tired. Trying to get the Soups, protien shakes and liquids down but hard with having the wind and being so swollen. Am amazed that some people on here are talking about eating tiny amounts of food only a couple of days after surgery. I was told to only have liquids - even Water down yoghurts.

What does anyone take for the trapped wind

I am told that peppermint tea is good as are windeze capsules.

Also I'm told that walking around will help quite a bit.

I hope that your windy pain subsides soon!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
