I'm 8 months post op and I think I waited 6 months. Pre band, I could drink a whole bottle of Moscato and what seems like a gallon of margaritas, don't judge me...LOL! I can barely drink half a wineglass full of alcohol before I get tipsy now. Whatever you choose to drink, sip it slowly. I don't drink any alcohol now because I look like a lush after a few sips!!!

I was told that alcohol is a no-go like caffein since it isn't good for the pouch. Is this just my Dr, or is it just a strong recommendation?

I cannot consume it for once year. My program actually requires all sleeve and bypass patients to sign a contract stating you won't consume for one year. Every program is different though :)

I've had a tiny bit of wine..I say tiny because the 2x I've tried it I was pretty much tipsy after the smallest of sips. I think my surgeons program called for at least 1 year out for alcohol..naughty me I tried it. It hit me super fast. I'm nearly 7mo and just now in the last month or so trying it.

I was told by my doctor's office that you should be drinking absolutely no alcohol for at least 1 year.

I'm pre op. I can't imagine not drinking for a year. I love my wine! This will be rough. I might sip a bit. Can't hurt right?

Sipping could hurt the sleeve. I understand what you're saying, because I love wine too…but I am really concerned about hurting myself.

7 weeks is way to soon. Sorry but it is not a good idea.

I contacted my Doc at 5 weeks out to ask if I could have a glass of wine as I was going out for the evening and she said it was fine and just suggested that I put some ice in the glass or drank Water at the same time. They're much less strict with us over here I've noticed.

I had my first glass of wine about 5 months out. Got tipsy really quickly but also sobered up very quickly. Found that food and Water help.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
