The Negative People Keep Coming Out Of The Woodworks

Recommended Posts

I'm tired of all the people who know someone who had a problem. Funny thing every one I have spoken to love it. People need ti support

Yep. I am being careful about whom on my husband's side of the family I tell. They love to drag out the "So and so knows so and so and they had a *insert WLS here* and such and such happened and now their life is RUINED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Stories and I don't need that crap, thank you very much. :P

Just remember, statistics show that only 5% of complications arise by no fault of the patient. The rest are caused because of something the patient did (or didn't) do to cause it.

Also remember that anecdotal evidence like "oh my aunt's friend did this" or "my brother's sister in law said that" holds zero merit. Everyone seems to know somebody that had a WLS and some weird horror story to go along with it. Ignore it- it's not worth your time or energy.

Just keep following your own path and don't worry about the naysayers :)

That is possibly why I have not told too many people. I have a task at hand and I am going for it.

That happened to me, too, and it haunted me. Ive found that whatever surgery someone is going to have ( be WLS or gall bladder or tonslis, etc), there will always be someone who brings up some hellish story to tell about what happened to a friend of theirs in the very same situation as YOU!

Maybe they are at a loss as to how to be supportive and that's what they come up with.

I'd rather people just say something like, "Good for you! Go for it!" or to simply be curious about the procedure and what it's like.

Yep. That is why I am pretty much keeping my own council, for now. I will probably share sometime in the future but for now... Naw.

People love a train wreck....or ever notice traffic backed up for miles because of an accident on the other side of the center median in the other lanes?

News room saying...If it bleeds, it leads....

NO ONE knows I have had WLS except for immediate family....I just did not want to explain myself to everyone...it is something I needed to do, for myself, my health, and ultimately my Family.....

So I received nothing but compliments during my journey, and no criticisms....and today, 3 years later, being fat is but a old memory to everyone, no one talks about it anymore, and all have accepted the fact, and take it for granted that I am what I am....a fit person without an oz of fat on me (as someone said yesterday)

New people I meet never knew I was once over 100 lbs heavier, and the subject of me loosing weight is now old news, no longer something to talk about in the office............the ultimate NSV....

Ironically, the one family member who was my biggest critic with nothing but stories of failures......is one of the fattest people I know. And she keeps getting fatter!!!...she should not be the one throwing stones...but even she has now stopped talking about it seeing the entire process was 100% successful with zero complications.....

Ain't nobody got time for that!! I have chosen not to tell to many people for the same reason. Don't want to know, don't want it hear it. Many times people, yes with good intentions try to tell you why you should not have the surgery and yes they always know someone that is not happy with their lap band. But do they know all the facts of why they are not sucessful? Nope

Therefore, I pay no mind!!!

My surgery is this coming Monday, I can't Wait!!!

I hate these Protein shakes

I don't hate them, I just grow a little weary of the sweet. I am craving some savory. I was perusing the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury site, looking at the chicken flavor, reading reviews and so on. I think I am going to order a few packets and try it. Get a little variety in my menu. :D

Some have good intentions and some want to knock your arse right off the rails. It isn't easy for some people to accept a friend or family member's dramatic weight loss. As huge as it is for us, it's pretty freaking huge for those around us, as well and not everyone deals with it so well.

Good luck on Monday! I'll keep you in my thoughts, :D

everyone has an opinion....some good ones and some bad...some just dont know how the (bad) things affect people...you read/hear see something that is (bad) and you go oh **** and worry for nothing...why i always say, any questions/pain, ask the dr....not what someone pulls from web as truth.

and some just say stuff because they have no clue or are scared for you (family/friends) or are just stupid....tell who you want....tell no one....but understand its not you..just do your best with whatever surgery you get...you will be fine...hang with us positive people......it drives the neg nellies ape ****.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
