I am presently waiting for my Lap band surgery scheduled for late March. I have been on the liquid diet for 12 days at present and it is a challenge. The heaviest that I can ever remember being is 500lbs and that was three years ago. Then without any warning I was diagnosed with cancer, and suddenly I realized what being over-weight meant. I had to wait for tests because the machines were not designed for someone my size, treatments had to be stronger in order to be effective and so on. So, with my wife's help I decided to lose some of my excess weight and I did, I lost over 135lbs with diet. However, last year I reached the point when nomore would come off no matter what I did and then I became very discouraged. I put back on 25-40lbs and that felt terrible. I then heard about the lap band and became very interested and after some deep soul searching decided to go through with the procedure. I am anxiously awaiting the day and thrilled to be actually doing this. I should say that I have been cancer free for over 2 years and each check-up is a step forward and this surgery is another step in my taking back my life. :biggrin1:

Hi there, Newfie boy. Congratulations on your weight loss so far. It sounds like you're really taking your health in hand.

Where are you getting banded? I'm assuming you're in Newfoundland. Is there a band surgeon there?

I am orginally from NL but living in Alberta. There is no surgeon in AB that does the surgery so I am travelling to Toronto for the surgery.

Hi Newfie Boy. Congrats on being cancer free and also for the awesome weight loss!! I just wanted to let you know that there are a few doctors in Ab. I think Dr. Davies does it (Edmonton) and Dr. Phillip Mitchell, Dr.Estifanos Debru, and Dr. Jean-Gaston Descoteaux (all 3 from Calgary) do it too.

From one cancer survivor to another----((((hugs)))) I am so glad you made it over that hurdle. We will also make it over this one!

My cancer was one of the big reasons I chose lap bandover bypass, if ever I have a recurrance, and needed extra nutrition, I could unfill. The band has been a blessing!! I love it!

I hope your surgery and recovery are smooth, and look forward to hearing of your progress!

Welcome!

Kat

Hi KoobiesMum: The wait list just to have aconsult in AB is quite lengthy and it may take up to 3 years to actually have the surgery since there is no where in AB that you can pay for the surgery I have choosen not to wait any longer and to pay for the surgery in Toronto, I will be see one of the Doctors in Calgary for my fills (this is an arrangement from the clinic). Can't wait only a few more sleeps.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
