So Many Problems. Worth It?

Recommended Posts

I am a 27 year old female who had the sleeve performed on Oct 14. My starting weight was 487 and on my 2 week post op, I lost exactly 30 pounds.

I have had nothing but issues. The bottom lobes of my lungs collapsed after surgery and I developed a blood clot in my right lung. I wasn't able to get up the day of or after my surgery, I was in excruciating pain. I ended up being in the hospital 4.5 days. They didn't catch the clot, and 3 days later I was readmitted for another 4 days. The very expensive ($120 WITH insurance, for 1 week) lovenox injections weren't really working. I had increasing chest pains and shortness of breath, so my doc suggested I go to the ER, sure they would give me a CT. Turns out, I was readmitted yet again for another 4 days.

I am now 4 weeks post op and on soft foods. My issue now is pretty severe stomach cramps and not to be crude, but diarrhea from hell. It's a very dark color, but appears to be dark, dark green. I'm also on Iron, but today, it had the coffee grounds appearance. Everything I eat, be it one soft scrambled egg, or Soup, juice, Jello, applesauce even Water makes me violently sick. It's all I can do to keep food and water down.

I am going to my surgeon tomorrow for my 4 week, but has anyone else had a hard time like this?

I did not have the medical issues and can not speak to that but when I moved to soft foods lots of things made me sick and gave me stomach cramps and diarrhea. I got to where for the first month on soft foods I ate the same things everyday because they worked. Sometimes some of our tummies take a bit longer to get healed enough to process. Yogurt and refried Beans and chili from Wendy's were some of my stapes during this period. I hope your surgeon can give you some suggestions.

Please call your doctor today. I took care of my mom after her surgery and turned out the "coffee grounds" consistency was blood. Doc sent us to ER and she had to have transfusions. I am not a doctor, but better safe than sorry, give them a call. If it is nothing no harm done. Good luck.

I agree. You need to let your surgeon know about the coffee ground consistency. I'm so sorry you are having such a rough time! Hang in there, it will get better, it has too. Positive thoughts your way! Keep us posted.

I'm sorry you have had so many complications. I hope that the life changing weight loss will be worth the troubles you are experiencing.

I agree that you should contact the doctor now, not wait til tomorrow. The severe cramps and coffee grind should be reported. Good luck.

It will be worth it but pls don't delay telling the dr about your problems. I'm 7 months out and can still get green loose stools which I guess is normal for the calorie intake being so low but with your other issues I would say definitely mention it xxx good luck xxxx

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
