Ugh! Surgery Scheduled For Monday And Im Sick!

Recommended Posts

My surgery was postponed from Oct 11th to Nov 11th due to my Dr's wife having her baby. I've tried to stay healthy this week but I have failed miserably. My 22 month old grandson got sick Tuesday and vomited on me 6 times. All i could think at the time was oh great, im gonna get sick. I also received my flu shot the same day. The Dr office told me Monday it was fine to go ahead and get one.

My throat started hurting bad yesterday with a runny nose and sneezing. I emailed Dr office and asked about being sick. She said as long as I don't have a fever or coughing up stuff I should be fine. But if Im nauseous or vomiting on Monday they will reschedule.

I'm hoping I don't have to do my bowel prep AGAIN only to find out I have to reschedule again. : (

Anyone have a cold at time of surgery?

They also told me to get plenty of Vitamin C and stay hydrated. I have drank over a half gallon of orange juice since yesterday and I'm using sugar free Vitamin c drops. I'm on the fence about seeing my family dr today or just waiting through the weekend to see how it goes.

It's a little aggravating that a friend at work told me oh well, it must be a sign that you shouldn't have surgery while smiling big. I know she's jealous because she can't have it, but I still wanted to smack her lol.

Thanks Janifer. Good luck and praying you and your hubby have a speedy recovery!

I'm really thinking my surgery will be postponed. I feel like crap. : (

I'll do my bowel prep tomorrow and hope for the best on Monday morning. I have to be there at 7.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
