How many nights did you stay in the hospital?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to get my child care set up for next week after my surgery so I am trying to get an idea of how many nights I will be in the hospital. My hubby wants to stay with me so we have to rely on family to watch our 3 year old at night. I am young and healthy and I recovered from a c-section from my belly button down very quickly. I was up walking that day. Any ideas on how many nights I'll stay?

My doc requires 2, I got an extra night because I couldn't pass gas. However, there are many folks here that go home the next day. You're best off asking your doc what his standard practice is. Good luck!!!

I actually stayed one night. Didn't have to pass gas, but did a lot of bleching. I had a fantastic surgeon, and a very good group of medical staff, that stayed on top of everything.

Just stayed one night- standard procedure for my surgeon. They didn't care if I was passing gas or anything. I just had to pee after the catheter was removed and that was it.

I stayed 2 nights which is standard in the UK. No requirement to pass gas but as the lady said above, they were very keen to make sure my pee-ing was ok. They actually measured the volume for 24 hours as I couldn't go on the first couple of attempts.

I was required to stay two unless there are complications. Luckily there were none and I was ready to jet as soon as they green lighted me to go.

I stayed one night, I was discharged at 8pm the second day. My doc won't release you until you progress to full liquids w/no trouble and are peeing. :-)

I stayed four nights. I wasn't breathing properly and had to have a blood transfusion. :(

Two nights turned into three only because the city shut completely down with three feet of snow in 12 hours, then another night in the hotel.

I was supposed to stay 2 nights, but did well enough to go home after 1.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
