I was told caffeine dehydrates you and we are already fighting to stay hydrated after surgery. However, I don't always follow the rules....I have one small cup every other day or I will make a 8 oz cup with 1/2 Decaf and then try to drink an extra glass of Water a day. I'm not to worried about dehydration because I don't have problem with getting liquids in. I'm more concerned about my acid reflex kicking back in.

I am confused as well. Why no caffeine? I drink coffee every morning ? Should I not be?

My Doctor said caffeine can cause dehydration due to its laxative effect. Since I struggle (daily) to get my fluids in, I need to steer clear of caffeine. He didn't recommend that just for me though. He tells that to all of his patients.

I either get a Decaf Skinny Cinnamon Dulce latter (hot or iced), or venti green tea (4 S&L). I will say, my husband got me what was suppose to be a skinny chai latte iced at the great wolf lodge last Saturday and I drank about a quarter cup if it before realizing it wasn't sugar free! I totally dumped. Felt like hell. Now I only shop my local Starbucks where they know me!

I love the iced passion tea with no sweetener and add 2 splendas. So yummy and refreshing. It also hydrates you just like Water. If I want something hot, I get a flavored skinny Decaf latte :)

That is the worst possible scenario! I've had that happen! As soon as I realize there's sugar or caffeine I take that drink right back into the nearest Starbucks. It's very frustrating to pay that money for a beverage and not have it right. Like you, my local Sbux Baristas know my situation and most of the time get the drink right for me. I prefer to go to the stores that I am familiar with too! Dumping is the worst thing ever!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
