I don't want all the questions that I know will come from people who are asking for the wrong reasons, I want to be ME - LIPSTICKLADY - I do not want to be me, the girl who had WLS, one that no one really knows about. Does that make sense?

:D

This makes total sense. After 18 months I'm tired of being the guy that lost all the weight. It's not even about the surgery anymore....although everyone knows about it. It's the "wow....how much weight have you lost?" Or...."how much more are you going to lose?"

Well since I've been in maintenance for 9 months I'd say the answer is the same as last time you asked me.

Really, sometimes I'd like to get some business cards made that say "yes I had WLS....I lost alot of weight...now leave me the fuck alone."

Exactly.

I owe my life to this surgery and am way too proud of my journey to lie about it. That said, I can definitely see how some would want it kept a secret. It's hard to live up to other's expectations of what this surgery entails and draining to answer the same questions over and over! I'm an established hairstylist and talk to A LOT of people on a daily basis. I'd like to discuss anything other than my weight loss at this point. Lol

It is useless to justify lying...no one would believe you  .

For me, other than I just have never talked about my medical history, year after year when yoyo dieting, losing and regaining the same 30 pounds, I just got tired about talking about it years ago. I realized that my weight, whatever it is, is NOT what I am about so it doesn't need to be the topic of conversation any longer. I do not tell people how much I have lost other than "a bunch." I do not discuss how I am losing it other than "I'm working very hard." This has been my response for years and it served well then and continues to. People can think whatever they want. I just am not going to discuss it any longer. Ever. Subject is burned out beyond belief. I think we can ALL relate to that!

People have their reasons for telling or not telling what or how they are doing it. I, for one, don't have an issue or annoyance of what other people say. If for them, they feel better saying they are losing weight by standing on one foot and rubbing their tummy, I'm not going to judge it and I don't think anyone else should either. They have their reasons and who am I to judge them on those reasons? Who really cares? Who is ANY of us to judge them?

Everyone's journey is hard enough without judgements from people who should understand the most.

I guess I'm different.... I tell everybody ..... my husband tells everybody .... I see no reason for me to not tell.... we've not met any negativity yet but I'm sure I will at some point .... I could careless what they have to say.... its not their health and their lives and needed to be saved.... it was mine....

I agree with you, I'm not ashamed and I don't care what people say about me once I tell them how I'm losing, I guess it takes Avery special person or character of a person to not care what others may think, may say, or may believe about you.

I also tell everyone about surgery and that it was in Mexico. Everyone has been very positive about it. I even have others ask me about it because the are interested for themselves or other family members. I really don't care what they think. Its my life and my decision.

I think whether or not you choose to tell everyone is a different issue from what you choose to tell everyone. Many of us do not choose to tell everyone. But we also refuse to say it was because of cancer or diet pills or some magic potion.

Many people who ask us are genuinely seeking help for themselves. To mislead them as to how we got there is a little disingenuous.

I guess I distinguish between lying by omission (Not telling the world you had surgery but explaining the behavioral changes you've had to make, all of which is the truth but not the WHOLE truth) vs. lying by commission (telling them it was cancer, none of which is true).

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
