Wrong Code Requested By My Surgeon?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

Well my surgeon's staff submitted my paperwork and for some reason not all of it went through when they faxed it to BCBS of California. Well I got a letter from BCBS today saying they need more info (which my dr called already and said they were taking care of it) but on that form it said type of surgery: gastric bypass. I have been very clear I would be wanting VSG. What happens now?? I have to wait till Monday to call them and of course I'm sick to my stomach over this!!! Has anyone heard if this or had this happen to them??? I'd appreciate any input!

Mine said the same thing from Aetna and I called them and told them it wasn't right. I guess Aetna felt as though same difference which wasn't true because Aetna changed it but then said I would have to go home the same day. With bypass they let you stay for a few days. So make sure you call BCBS and your doctors office.

Yes, all my codes said gastric bypass, but it all worked out fine. Don't worry, have a great weekend and just call 'em Monday.

I called my surgeon and they said it was reported in error and were going to call my insurance right away! Now the waiting game begins :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
