Haveing pain every time i drink

Recommended Posts

I am one week out and almost every time I take a sip of something's get a sharp chest pain! I have tried all different ways of how to swallow and drink nothing helps! Water is the easiest, so I mostly drink water! I just want to give up drinking all together!

Try taking teeny, teeny, tiny sips. Did you try warming up the Water? Or drinking warm herbal tea? I've heard some people say warm water was easier for them. Plus, room temperature or lukewarm water hydrates you faster. I am pre-op, so I have to take it from others that it will get better every day!

You can't give up on drinking cos you'll become dehydrated. I used to get those pains too but they will go away. I'm almost 5 months out and I don't drink anything but Water. This too shall come to pass but mention it to your doctor too.

I've read it many times before. My surgeon explained it to me as the "tube" to your pouch spasming, which causes all sorts of wonderful things, discomfort, pain, and nausea. I'm so sorry you're going through this!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
