The best surgeon on Hampton Roads, Va is: Dr. Terracina

Recommended Posts

I just went to my pre-op class yesterday Oct. 28th and met with my surgeon for the last time. When I started this journey I was with a female surgeon but once she told me that she 'Won't' do the sleeve but will do the bypass I searched out a second opinion.....besides he was the one I wanted in the first place, but he was not offered when I went to my seminar (found out that different surgeons are set up at different towns). Anyway, at the seminar we was told what Dr. T does: first he'll staple your stomach, then he will hand stitch the line, then he'll apply 'surgical snow' (its a sealant). So he reinforces your stomach three times! .....I love that.

Also he has performed over 700 Sleeves, more than all the surgeons in Hampton Roads..COMBINED! And all he does is baraitric surgery. The staff is great and been along with him for many years.

I am so comfortable with him. To anyone in the 7 cities of Hampton Roads Virginia if your looking to get surgery Dr. T is your man.

I do not take pictures too often, I started my journey (surgery) @ 304 PDS, I am currently 202, my goal is 185, BUT, 6 months into my journey I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer so it was then about survival. As soon as I complete my treatments I will get back to exercising. So, how are you? When was your surgery.

How did all this work out? I have someone else getting done by Dr. Terracina. Love to know how he is. I had another surgeon in Hampton Roads, not far away and my story is one I publicize so that people don't get what I got and the knowledge of their actions is spread so people know their practices.

Question for you - what made you choose Dr. Terracina vs. Clark?

I know this is an older post, but just in case someone is searching I'd like to add my opinion. I interviewed the few options I had in the Hampton Roads area as well as several doctors Central Florida while I lived there. Dr. Terracina far surpasses any expectations I would have for someone I wanted beside me on this journey. I've never met someone so caring and genuinely passionate about helping others reclaim their lives. I'm having surgery in a couple of weeks and there is not one bit of doubt or fear in my mind about his capabilities. His office has been incredibly attentive to my insane amount of questions, never once making me feel like I was a bother. It is a rare thing. Just my opinion - The other surgeons I met with seems to be their for business only. I wasn't comfortable with that.

Hi,

I can tell you of the experiences I had with another doctor in the area. I can understand why you all talk about Dr. Terracina. I can give experiences with other doctors from friends who I know are telling the truth.

I am thankful that everyone has been kind to list the items here. Yes, when they talk about being out for the business, I have 2 right off the top of my head that are into marketing the extra products.

Realize that this surgery can have a 40-45% profit rating. It makes up for other areas in the hospitals. That is a very good reason why they will protect the surgeons and not us. We are expendable. The doctor makes money for the hospitals. There are less than 2000 bariatric surgeons, from what I understand.

Moving this post current lol. Dr. Terracina will do my surgery on 9/10/15. Just to bring you up to date with current stats, he is at 4000 plus wls's todate. That is quite impressive in and of itself. If you are even considering surgery you need to visit his website and watch the videos. His voice alone is reassuring as you can hear his commitment to the cause of obesity. My PCP referred me to Dr. Terracina in 2009 but my insurance did not cover it. Finally in 2014 my husband was enrolled in a plan at a new job that did cover it. There was never any question of who was going to do it. My only call was Dr. Terracina's office and here I am after 12 months of insurance required NUT counseling and 13 months and 6 days after starting the journey (6 years after my initial weight loss seminar)I am ready to begin my healthy new lifestyle and start acting my youthful age of 49.

The previous responses all did.

I can tell you about the 3 groups in Hampton Roads or impressions I've gotten and heard. Dr. Terracina, and then after that Dr. Clark, have been the best overall so far.

Can someone tell me their personal surgery experience with him??? I'm in Hampton roads and looking for a surgeon.

You didn't say in your note whether or not you saw all the responses on this thread. That would have given you the information you were looking for.

I gave you an update. If you are asking specific people who posted, contacting them privately would be the best way to see if they've changed their minds.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
