We're you told not to shave before going into surgery?

If so... When did they say to stop shaving?

Or is this just a Mexico thing?

Someone said their surgeon said no shaving because it could lead to infection.

Anyone know anything about this???

I wasn't told this, but they shaved my stomach during surgery. Lol

shaving with a razor can make infection more likely. if you want to remove any body hair, use clippers.

Same here, they told me no shaving within five days of the surgery. Reason: any cuts caused by shaving could be a proponent to infection. I followed their instructions exactly. No taking chances for me.

If you aren't allowed to shave, you can still use Nair, or wax right?

Ok thanks you guys, that's what I thought I heard.

I don't know about Nair (hate that nasty stuff, eww)

But waxing ...I'm going to guess...no, because you're opening up your pores, and do we really know how long it takes them to close down? Unless your doc says ok, I would error on the side of caution with that one, personally.

Does this only apply to the abdominal area? I wouldn't see anything wrong with waxing eyebrows prior to surgery, but if they told me not to, then I wouldn't

Just where the surgical part is at. They just don't want you shaving your abdomen then they cut you open and an infection take over your body once it has access.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
