How many bites per meal?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering how far out post-op are you? And how many bites per meal are you typically having ?

Nearly 5 months out and I can eat 1 to 1&1/2 cups of food (8 to 12 oz) at my evening meal. So I must select good Proteins and veggies. I avoid most carbs and no simple sugars.

Don't know how many 'bites' but I do still eat with a baby spoon (cute eh?)

I am almost five months out and I eat between 6 and 8 ounces per meal, depending on what it is. As with Arts137, I don't count the bites, but I do know by sight how much I can eat, and I know how my stomach feels when it is full, so I focus on eating until I am full but not too full, and I do not count how many bites. I guess if they were big bites, it would be 6 or 8 bites, but I take really small bites and chew really well so that is not really a good measure for how I eat.

I'm starting month 11 and can eat between 3/4 cup and 1 1/2 cups depending on the food. meats fill me up the fastest and I can't hold as much. Vegetables, I can eat more of, I think it's because they are mushy and take up less space.

You might watch my video, it goes over the amounts of food I could increasing eat over the months post op.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
