Breastfeeding and surgery

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to find the right place to post this. I hope I'm right on this one. I am in the process of getting a revision from lap band to sleeve. I am currently breastfeeding my 5 month old. I was wondering if anyone has done this before? I am wanting to still breastfeed until he is 1-2 years old. Do you think I can have the surgery and still breastfeed?

I think so. My little guy is 15 months and I just had the surgery last Wednesday and I nurse my lo. Talk to your Dr and see what they say. Good luck to you!

I didn't go through this but I did breastfeed my son. I think during your recovery period when you're still on pain medication, you'll need to pump to keep up your supply and supplement him with either breastmilk you've previously pumped, or formula. He won't be able to nurse him with the meds you'll be on post surgery. I only took pain meds for about a week. See if the hosp/doc can arrange a hospital grade pump for you to use during your recovery period, it would make things easier!

You may need to take things like fenugreek to up your supply since your intake will be pretty low which will effect your supply, but, i don't see it being completely impossible, just challenging! In the end though I'm sure it'll help with weight loss as well as being awesome for the baby :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
