So, so depressed...

Recommended Posts

I know. This is a sob story. Sorry. Just felt I had to type this. I just found out today that I have osteoperosis. I'm only 59!!! What the heck!!!! I've been put on Fosomax 70mg but for whatever reason, I just feel it won't be enough. I had a dexascan in 2001 and was told at that time that I had osteopenia and that if I took Calcium it would be reversed. I have been faithful in taking Calcium for all these years and now it's worse.

If this has done anything, it is has made me even more determined to have this surgery to get the weight off my frame. And I will admit, I did cheat a little on my 1200 cal. a day diet. Guess I had to get the last bit of emotional eating out of my system.

So, ho-hum...it's off to bed I go. I work graveshift from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. so I guess I better hit the hay and get my rest.

Thanks for listening and maybe understanding.

Hug your loved ones and appreciate what you have today because tomorrow is never certain...

I am so sorry to hear that. I am 59 as well and have never had a scan. I guess I had better get my butt in gear and get it done.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. :: HUGS :: My mom has osteopenia and she's not good about taking her Calcium. Unfortunately, as you know, it doesn't help everyone. Losing weight will definitely put less pressure on your joints, so it's great that you are dedicating yourself to VSG and all the life changes that come with it. Wishing you well!

You have osteoporosis, you aren't dying!! Turn that frown upside down! Think about how much better this will be for you when you've lost your extra weight, think about where you will be in a year. Take your Fosamax like you are supposed to - on an empty stomach, 30 minutes before you eat or drink anything, and while staying in an upright position (maybe use that time to get some cardio exercise in) and think positive. You are doing this to improve your health and this is evidence #1 that you are making a step in the right direction. You are right, tomorrow is not certain, we are not promised tomorrow. SO... make the very best of what you have today. Keep your chin up, it isn't the end of the world, it is the beginning of a new one!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
