The best I can jigger is

Net Calories Consumed* calories Carbohydrates 50g (25%) Protein 100g (50%) Fat 22g (25%)

... but we definitely shouldn't be getting 22 grams of fat a day, should we?

And what about this stuff?

Cholesterol mg Sodium mg Potassium mg Fiber g Sugars g

Mine numbers are set at 800 cals, 80g Protein, 60 carbs, 22g Fiber, 27g fat, 2500g sodium. I mostly only pay attention to protein & carbs, though.

I don't see what's wrong with 27 gms of fat. It's better than increasing carbs IMHO. Fiber I have set to 15 gms for my 800 calories and sugar is set to less than 25 gms for me.

I'm pre-op, looking for clarification. What does MFP stand for? And who sets the values - you? surgeon? dietician? Thanks Jean Z

MFP= my fitness pal

I have mine set to 1200 cal/day bc my Nutritionist says if you have too few calories your body will be in starvation mode. She said if no exercise, 1000 is ok.

30% Protein

40% carb

30% fat

As recommended to me bc good carbs are important.

I have MFP set for 1000 cals. Protein is 45%. Carb is 35% and fat is 20% I'm pretty close most days..... That's about 60-65gms of protein and 60-80 gms of carbs. This is set by my dietician. I just kept playing with the settings to get the numbers

myfitnesspal is a free website that is good for tracking how you are doing against your nutrition and exercise goals. It's really good for nutrition because it has the nutritional values for many, many foods built into the program, so you don't have to try to figure those out on your own.

800 calories, 60 g carbs, 31 g fat (actually my real goal is 30 g fat, but that's the closest I can get it on MFP), 70 g Protein (true goal = 75 g), 13 g fiber, plus I track Calcium because I prefer to get my calcium from food, not supplements.< /p>

I'm also confused as to why anyone is afraid of eating fats. Healthy fats are good for you. I eat 40% fat, 40% Protein and 20% carbs. I've eaten that since the beginning and as my calories have gone up the total grams of each has gone up, but my ratios have stayed the same. My weight loss has been great and these ratios fuel my long workouts perfectly.

I'm similar to Bean. 45% Protein, 30% fat, and 25% carbs. I generally only pay attention to my protein and carbs. I don't really worry about fat.

Btw that ratio is exactly what's suggested for anyone who is insulin resistant, has/had metabolic syndrome, or has hypothyroid. Basically anyone who needs to watch carbs.

And I'm definitely insulin resistant. How I avoided a diabetes diagnosis for so long I'll never know.

I changed the calorie setting, but how can I change the default for the others? Thanks in advance!

Good to know about the fat!!! My head is stuck in one of my old fat-free phases!

I'll make adjustments accordingly. I really want to get the hang of MFP, and am on my second day of my nutrition/exercise diary!

Thanks everybody!!

J

Pretty sure you have to be on the web version, not the app, for starters. Then:

--from the My Home tab, click the Goals sub-tab

--click the green "Change Goals" button

--select the "Custom" radio button, then click the green "Continue" button.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
