I had surgery 3/1/07 and I know I'm still swollen, but I cannot burp. They say to get up and walk around to pass excess gas, but when I feel like I have to burp - it is actually like a hiccup and hurts. Nothing comes out and it's painful. Any suggestions?

The same thing happened to me. Burps post surgery were not the same as pre surgery. And right after - it was VERY painful for me. Mine lasted like that for 11 days - and it was hell! I think because of all the swelling it was so different. I walked and walked and walked - was the only thing that seemed to help. I did the Gas-X strips - didn't help. Oh lord, I wanted to burp so badly. Once you get onto full liquids - it will come.

Good luck, and congrats!

I DREAD having the feeling to burp because it is so darn painful. Thanks for your input. I keep telling myself it'll get better and it will be worth it in the end.

As silly as it sounds, what I did to help myself get through the pains of these new kinds of burps; I would 'extend the length' of the burp. Almost like pushed out more air (past the pain part) - do you get what I mean? Almost exaggerated the end of the burp.

My biggest fear was the gas - and I was one of the worst sufferers of it!!! ONLY me!!! lol :myscared:

....not really ONLY me. Being here on LBT - I knew what to expect for the most part. Not until you actually LIVE it - do you know it.

I was banded on 2/28 and I am having the SAME issue. Those hiccups are painful. I just feel like I have so much gas and I can feel it moving around in my chest but it refuses to come out in a burp.

Does it feel like you have pressue in your chest as well?

Yes there is pressure in my chest too (alot)! I keep thinking a great big burp will help - but no burps come. I am 4 days after surgery and it still hurts, but I can honestly say it's getting better each day. :)

Same problems here!! I was starting to wonder, is this how it's going to be forever?

I feel like I have to burp but it's really painful, so painful I have to stop dead in my tracks, and then nothing comes out half the time!

And I got the hiccups four times today. What's up with that? I worry all this violent movement will upset the band, but surely not....

And yes, I still have chest pains too.

So this burping thing goes away, eh? Looking forward to that!

I burbed today!!!! Today is day 6 since my surgery. I just opened my mouth to say something and it came right out. It was quite embarrassing (as I was at work) but I was so excited and it felt so good I got over the embarassment pretty quickly. I did forget to try and extend it as was mentioned above. I was just too surprised.

The pressue in my chest also beginning to lessen more and more. The walking does help. Yesterday, sitting at my desk most of the day, it was hard for me to stand up straight when got ready to go home. Today, I'm taking a walk every 30 minutes, so far so good.

Sending burp wishes your way!

Yes, I never thought I'd say this, but I am looking forward to burping. I'll keep the walking up and hopefully this "hiccup" stuff will be a thing of the past. Thanks for all the input! Happy burping back at you! :girl_hug:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
