Re: CLEAR LIQUID DIET (pre-op)

Recommended Posts

3 days before surgery, I'm supposed to ONLY have Clear Liquids.

My surgery will be in Mexico and there aren't alot of details on this portion of the diet.

I figured I do two Isopure or NEW WEIGH, which will give me 80 grams of Protein and around 320 cals. But what would I drink to get the rest of calories without loading up on sugar, like fruit juice?

Any ideas?

Did you all have a similar diet plan?

Any suggestions are greatly apreciated :-)

You are going to be doing good if you can drink 2 of the Isopure after surgery. I was sleeved in Mexico on September 27. It took me 2 weeks before I could drink my 64 ounces. You could have broth, sf Popsicles, sf Jello. Just a few ideas.

I also had a 3 day clear liquid diet before my Mexico surgery. At this point the goal is to clean out the whole digestive tract, not concentrating on calories. Water, water, water, broth, Jello, crystal light water flavoring, teas, its not really fun, but you'll do just fine.. Good luck.

shakes are not a clear liquid, fyi. They are considered a full liquid. Clear liquid is something you can see through at room temp. (unless you're using a shake like nectar and Water it down)

Excellent point, Ubesleevable. I understood that from the get go that it has to be CLEAR liquids. That counts out all shakes that I know of. For sure, all teas are OK, all drinks like Crystal Lite, probably coffee w/no milk or sugar. As you say, liquids that are clear, that you can see through. I have to do this for 2 days before my surgery. I'm on my pre-op diet now ... just starting 2nd day ... and starving. But I'm going to eat meat and veggies for one meal a day. Wow - I just noticed your date is 2 days after mine. I'm being done on the 1st.

My nut said, anything you can see threw and that has calories. She said for these days, you need the calories to keep going. My clear day is Monday, got Gatorade (approved by my nut)and a couple juices. Didn't think about the Isopure tho, which I have.

I only have a 3 day clear liquid diet too. Have heard the people in the endoscopy dept that work right next to us advising patients that you should be able to read the writing on a newspaper looking through a glass of the stuff - lol. I don't think that would work with Jello unless your eyes are really good.

Anyway - broth, Water, apple juice, Jello, tea - all work. I am going to try to get in some Isopure so my Protein levels aren't too low going into surgery. Also - have ordered the starter kit of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury. They emailed me that the chicken broth and strawberry sorbet are compatible with clear liquid diets.

The pre op diet is first for a good portion of us...then the day before surgery we almost all have a Clear liquids day. Meaning anything you can see threw that has calories.

Hope this helps!

I found these today at Wal-Mart! A good change periodically from chicken or beef broth! I'm having the tortilla one right now- pretty good but spicy!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
