Completely Devastated

Recommended Posts

So I just got switched from my parents insurance to a new insurance through my employer since im 26 now and I have been making doctors appts going to seminars to have the gastric sleeve. My heart was set on this and I thought for sure no problem my insurance would pay for this i have high blood and many other problems. I had a 4 hour doctors appt set for next week to make my round of appts since my doctor has most everything in house. So i call my insurance this morning and ask about coverage and told me No they DO NOT cover it whatsoever... Im completely devastated and have had my heart set on this for awhile now, there is no way! i could do self pay...So needless to say does anyone know of any other options?! can i get obamacare insurance as a secondary? will they pay? i know they cover it in maryland but idk if they will cover it as a second insurance and that seems a little expensive to pay for 2 monthly premiums idk if i could ever afford that :'( im so upset this ruined everything

Is continuing on your parents insurance with COBRA an option? The rate would be high, but much less than the surgery.

This article says you can get insurance through an exchange even if your employer offers you insurance:

http://www.npr.org/2...op-for-coverage

Whether that means you have to completely give up your insurance from your job and just have the ACA exchange insurance, I don't know. You might want to get in touch with an insurance navigator or insurance agent for your state to talk details.

The article does point out that the exchange insurance will probably be more expensive for you, since your employer won't be contributing anything. You'd have to weigh which is more expensive: buying your own insurance, or self-paying for a sleeve. Good luck!

I was devastated too when my insurance said NO to the sleeve but yes to RNY. I have a failed band right now and wanted to convert to the sleeve per my Dr. I never really wanted RNY but since they are still looking into the sleeve and won't pay for it now, I may have a long, long wait before they will reconsider paying for it. In my case, due to health reasons I'm considering by-pass. I am a low weight, so I am concerned. Will your insurance pay for RNY?

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
