I need your support... Please say a prayer for me :)

Hi Everyone,

I've absolutely fallen in love with a lot of you and have kept you in my prayers as you go along your journies.

My surgery is March 12th and I've never been in the hospital for anything since the day I was born and that was 36 years ago :myscared:

Please say a special prayer for my safety and recovery. The Word of God says when two or more agree as touching anything, He is in our midst. I truly need and ask for your prayers.

Love You all to pieces!!!!!

Desi

:amen:

You're young and healthy and you'll do great in surgery. It's normal to be nervous but going into surgery with an "I'm going to ace this" kind of attitude has been shown to speed recovery rates. Read all the posts you can and ask any questions you might have.

When you have your pre-op testing, you'll meet with the anesthesiologist and THAT is the person who is in charge of the operating room, NOT the surgeon. Talk honestly with the anesthesiologist and ask questions. You'll feel a LOT better after that meeting.

I will enter into agreement with you. I was very worried before my surgery too. I am about your age (35) and this was my first real surgery. I had been in the hospital, I have 2 kids, and I had my tonsils taken out, but never something like this. I am here to tell you that things were not as bad as I had imagined. In fact, the worst part was waiting for the anesthesia (Spell check) to wear off. Oh, and being asked to drink some nasty liquid for an xray a few hours post-op. Just take it easy and you'll be fine.

I will be praying for you!

Ok.. tell me about this nasty liquid. How much do they ask you to drink? I've had an upper gi before and literally gagged on the stuff they make you drink. Would you believe this and being sick from the anesthetic afterwards are the only two things I dread about the surgery??:myscared:

oh wow! Sorry! What was meant to help didn't. Really, don't stress the liquid. It tastes nasty but you really only have to sip it. It is an upper GI, I didn't really want to say that because many people freak about that thick milky stuff that taste like chalk. This isn't that. It is a thin, bitter tasting liquid. I think it is supposed to taste like lemon-lime but doesn't. Also, all you have to do is stand there in front of the machine and sip while they look. The anesthesia was bad for me because I am ultra sensitive to any medication. Tylenol makes me sleep (ugh!). I would be happy to answer any questions and will give you the straightest answer possible. All in all, I would do it 100 times over. I have lost a little more than 50 lbs and I am feeling great. It is so worth the nasty little drink.

Can you hold your nose when you sip it?? :myscared: I have only had one surgery ( out of 4) when I have not been sick to my stomach upon waking up. I'm ultra sensitive to it I guess. Did you have that problem? I know they give you something for tummy upset with the anesthesia. I just don't know if it will work that good for me.

We go to see our surgeon March 15th. I hope to get a surgery date at that time. Both hubby and I will be banded. Each day that goes by we realize more and more that this is what we need to do to have a healthier life ahead of us. We are both very much excited about that prospect.

I was very proud of myself that I did not throw up, I had "gone under" twice before this and woke up throwing up and then blacking out. This time was different. I talked to the anesthes...oh bother, the medicine man, and he gave me something for my tummy before I even woke up. He then ordered that I could have this same stuff whenever I felt like I was going to need it. I only needed it twice after, and it really controlled this feeling.

sorry I really didn't address your question about holding your nose. I can't see why not, other than I had oxygen tubes up my nose, I think that is standard, not because I had any issues.

Excellent.. that is just what I needed to hear! Hopefully my anesthei..... the sleepy time guy, will do the same for me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
