Hope all is well. I started my pre op diet today and have made it through. It consists of 3 Protein shakes a day. I can also have chicken broth, sugar free ice pops and sugar free Jello.

I hope you're doing ok with the pre-op diet. I start mine 1 week from today and am not looking forward to it. I've been sampling Protein Shakes and so far I hate them all ....

I told my boss and a few co-workers that I was going to be out for surgery due to a hiatal hernia, which may be partially true. Had an upper GI and it was inconclusive as to whether or not I have one and my surgeon said if he see's one he'll just repair it. So, I'm going with that, for now ...

I'm pretty nervous about the surgery. How are you holding up?

So far so good! I'm on day 3 of the pre op diet and to my surprise it hasn't been all that bad. The shakes don't taste all that bad. I'm not cranky either which is surprising as well.I'm not nervous yet but I'm sure I'll be come surgery day. I'm very anxious though. I have my pre-admission testing tomorrow then it will be a waiting game until surgery day.My hernia story is still going strong. I think being on the pre op diet helps because I've already begun losing weight and some have noticed. How did everyone react to your "hiatal hernia" surgery?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
