BM? is there anything in there....

Hello all! well this is not a subject you talk about with just anyone!! lol. but I know my fellow sleevers would understand. My pre-op diet was 2 weeks full liquids, then had to do the wonderful bowel prep for surgery (which nothing happened) and now I'm 4 days post op and still have had no BM. Being a nurse I know this should be a cause for alarm and I should start hitting the MagCitrate, however; going this long with no BM you would think I would be uncomfortable/miserable...but... I don't even feel like there is anything in there! I'm not bloated, distended, or feel "full" at all!! I am and have been passing gas so I'm assured there's no blockage. Anyone else have the same issue. I am still very sore from surgery and would like to skip the "bomb" if at all possible to give my stomach a rest. Thanks my fellow sleevers and God Bless!

I know it took me a few days to have one and I wasn't concerned at all, after everything our stomachs have been through I am sure it's a major adjustment and it did come with time. Good luck to you! :)

I was BM 'free' for 5 days after surgery followed by 2 days of diahrrea, followed by all OK. "This too shall pass".

Thanks for your post "neurosurgnurse" I am 4 days post op and experiencing the exact same phenomenon lol. I do however burp frequently and passed gas one time (possibly more in my sleep according to the hubs...embarassing) however, still no #2 yet. I'm keeping hope that it will happen before my 7 day postoperative visit with the doc. Keep sipping away and although the topic is pretty gross...keep us posted :) good luck!

I have had constant diarrhea since surgery. It slowed down once I moved to solid foods, but when I was on liquid, I couldn't pass gas because I wasn't sure if it was just gas. I had a friend who had the surgery as well and she is just the opposite. It took her days after surgery to have a BM and now she has about 1 a week. I think everyone is different. I have always had trouble going to the bathroom. Once I drank the whole go lightly jug and didn't go. My doctor had me drink two bottles of magnesium citrate before my surgery back to back and it did the trick. If you don't go soon, you may try it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
