When did the slight uncomfortableness of eating subside for you?

Recommended Posts

I am almost 5 weeks out and I am just starting to acclimate more normal foods into my diet. Still soft foods..... cheese, thin deli meats, some chicken. Trying to get more Protein in with the food that I eat rather than rely on shakes.

The issue is, I chew and chew and chew and pretty much decimate the food I eat before I swallow but I still feel the food enter my stomach. It doesn't "hurt" when food goes in there but I am well aware that my stomach is taking in food and sometimes it sits weird for a moment and also when I am full that feeling is starting to feel like a normal "full" feeling I would have had before the surgery.

I guess my question is, will my new stomach ever be like my old stomach in the ways where I can just eat and not think about it? I know I had surgery 5 weeks ago, I just want to know if that weird "food is now in my stomach" feeling goes away.

My surgery was 5/22, and when i eat good quality Protein, i get uncomfortably full. Im somewhat uncomfortably full right now in fact :) I think people who are further out will say after 6 months the tummy relaxes, but I am curious to hear what they say. I do know for me at this point, it depends entirely on what I eat whether I feel the sleeve's restriction or not.

Not anytime soon. I still feel it almost 6 months out and I'm glad. My brain is still that of a fat girl. I never want to go back to old habits so I am thankful for that quick restriction. I'd much rather have a bit of uncomfortableness than ever be fat again.

I will suggest that you try smaller bites. Use a baby spoon and a cocktail fork. It makes a huge difference for me because it sounds as if you might be taking one bite too many or too big of bites.

Listen to your sleeve, right? ;)

I felt like crap when I ate for at least 2 months. Felt ok 3-4. Pretty good 5-6. Now 26 months out I feel 100% like I did pre-op!

That actually worries me. You still feel the restriction though, right?

10 months out, I have no problems with any food. Up to about month 6, I was still getting stomach grumbles from the "good foods" like grapes, pineapple, whole wheat bread, squash, eggplant... basically anything fibrous was difficult to downright uncomfortable to digest.

oh yeah, for most things. Its a new normal I suppose. I just don't get "discomfort" I am 26 months post op. My restriction does fluctuate. Examples of normal sized meals: 3-4 oz of steak and a few veggies 4-5 oz chicken breast and a few veggies, 1 small hotdog with small bun. 1 large slice of pizza. (or 2 small- like thin crust) or even 4 jumbo shrimp and I am stuffed. I can eat a 6inch sub, without the top of the bread. BUT I can eat an entire box of cheezits in a few hours. and trust me, I have. So I avoid sliders as much as possible, but not all the time. I have found a happy medium. I am very happy!

Thanks for clarifying. That helps. :)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
