October Sleevers - Men's Room

Recommended Posts

I felt the same way. I second guessed everything until they gave me the go to sleep shot.

I am 2days post-op and I'm great. The stress is normal.

That's funny I didn't panic until I scooted on the operating table from the transport bed luckily the Or Nurse Nancy recognized that I was about to bolt outta there, she put her hand on my chest and said I know what your about to do, but do you really want to back out now? She really calmed me down and gave me the courage to lie there. When I regained consciousness she was right there saying see all done welcome to your new life journey or (something like that I was still high as hell) LOL

My surgery is Tues 22nd at 1pm. starting to get a little nervous thinking about everything. Looking forward to the other side though.
Its completely normal. I was the most nervous the night before. I texted a buddy, who is a doctor, and asked him "what the f**k am I about to do?" He assure me of all the things we had talked about and when I woke up, I remembered and thought about how much I wanted this all along and how I had been envisioning myself 12 months after the surgery and I wasn't worried at all.

Thanks for posting. I am still researching vertical and I will be self pay. I am extremely nervous about it. I have never had a surgery except when I was an infant. I can definitely relate to being scared. What I can't relate to is only being able to eat 3 ounces of food and be satisfied. Has anyone else felt the same way?

I'm 2 days out and I'm not sure I know yet lol. I've been drinking my drinks in 4 oz increments just to prepare mentally and its still mind boggling. I guess that's an aspect of the sleeve that you can experience until it's actually done.

I had surgery last Friday (10/18/2013) and the last time I ate a real meal was Wednesday Night, however I did have an egg sandwich on Thursday morning. Since Saturday, I have not had anything except Protein Shakes, a couple pop cycles, and a couple Jello pudding snack. You can not put your head around not being hungry pre-op, but post-op, you are never hungry, not even the smallest bit. I drink the shakes because I am supposed to, not because I am hungry or thirsty. Compare that to the 24hours fast I did pre-op where I was starving.

Currently my biggest issue is I do not like sweet stuff and all the Protein Drinks are sweet. I am sick of it so I ordered Unjury chicken Soup and Unjury no flavor that I can add to soup. I am SICK of SWEET CRAP.

I had surgery Friday at 9am, went to 1/2 my sons football game on Sat @ 11:30. I have only told a couple people about the surgery and at the game on Saturday, people could tell I was not all there so when they asked what was wrong with me I told them I was hung over. :-). Sunday I went grocery shopping with my wife and everyone we know was there and no one thought anything was wrong with me. Why would they, I had no pain, I was walking around, I was fine. Today I went to my PCP because I have a chest infection, unrelated to the surgery, and he could not believe I had surgery last Friday. He thought I was saying this coming Friday and when he understood I had already had it he asked me to lift my shirt for proof. He could not believe it.

That is my experience.

Here is how I see the difference between pre-op and post-op dieting. Pre-op, you try not to eat and it is difficult and it sux a lot. Post-op, I am never hungry and force myself to push back another Protein Shake. I am 2 days out and I am sick of sweet stuff. Oh, and I have to remember I can not gulp like before. It hurts a little when you do.

If I did not have this chest infection I would feel perfect. Now I feel the same way as I did pre-op when I got a chest infection.

Thanks for the info. I have studied this so much that I feel like now I am overthinking it. I went to a support group last night here locally and spoke with a lady who is a year out. Talked about some of these things and she told me that you can't imagine it until you have done it. Guess I can relate because I feel that way about being a parent. By the way, she looked amazing. Seeing those results really get me excited about the procedure even though I know the effort and price because I am going to have to be self pay.

Sleeved last 17th, no pain, spent 2 days at the hospital, after surgery first day I had nothing, no Water, no Protein, second day started with sips of water and Jello, today 6 days later I can drink 3 16.9oz bottle of water, 2 11.0oz shakes, and jello etc... I'm sick and tired of chicken broth and shakes, hoping that Monday on my post op visit I get released to phase 3 (soft food)

Today is day 3 and getting enough Water down ain't easy. I've got to sip all day long just to make my quota. Right now anything that is really sweet tasting is murder. The liquid Tylenol and liquid Lortab pain meds are a disgusting cherry Syrup that is just hell for me to get down. The liquid Wellesse Vitamins aren't much better. But as long as I sip the Water I'll survive for now.

I haven't taken any of the nausea meds this morning to see how it goes. My stomach is grumbling pretty hard but I don't feel like I'm going to hurl. I definitely don't have any desire to eat or have any cravings, so I guess that's a good thing.

I don't think I've had a real problem with gas, but I have been dropping bombs that melt paint. Even my cat shook his head and had to run out of the room.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
