Just curious...I am 11 days post-op and today I have been extremely nauseous when I am drinking my meals. It starts from the first sip, so I know I am not drinking too much, but just can't stomach anything today.

Anyone else having that problem? It seems to have just started today...really feel cruddy

Did anything change in your diet yesterday? When the doc made all of these changes in my meds friday to try to get me some relief, that is when I felt the worst. Then today, I went back to basics, no new meds and no new foods, and I did pretty well.

Are you mobile? I also found that reclining while drinking really made me feel bad. Although my stomach is sore in the upright position, I feel better from a nausea standpoint if I drink that way.

I also had 2 very bad days and both days I added Mio to my Water. It was tasty, but both days I felt bad...so will no longer try those.

What about BM? Although I was not constipated, I had not gone in about 5 days. Took some Milk of Magnesia yesterday and cleared things out. I think that helped too.

All very good questions ATL...thank you for responding...here are the answers...

Nope...nothing new in the diet (sadly). Same slim fast, same Protein, plain Water (I don't like flavored waters) and same V-8.

I am relatively mobile...I get my walks in to about 30-40 minutes a day, but do spend the majority of the day in a somewhat reclined position due to some continued pain around the large incision.

I have been drinking in somewhat of a reclined position...perhaps that is the culprit...tomorrow I will sit up more and see if that fixes it.

Thankfully, I seem to be regular in the BM department..although it was a tad loose this morning TMI

I started having to swallow the Nystatin (for the thrush) about 3 days ago...wonder if it is a delayed reaction to having to swallow that now.

Thanks for the hints...I'll sit up more tomorrow and see if that works!

MnWin I was given a medication right off the bat in the hospital called Bentyl which stops stomach and intestinal spasms that can lead to cramping and nausea. Have you been given it also? If not it may be something to bring up with your doc. It helped me immensely. Just a thought :)

Good morning all. I'm packed and ready as I'll ever be to head to the hospital. Sliding over from the warm up bench to the losers bench. Will be in touch when I can.

Thanks for the advisement. I was not given any meds for nausea to bring home (despite having a Scopolamine patch, and vomiting while I was in the hospital). If it doesn't get better today, I will give the good doc a call...I don't have my follow up appointment until the 30th.

Well, crappy crap. I awoke this am to left shoulder pain again. :-( (8 out of 10). I thought I was past that since I'm 5 days post-op. Not only do I have shoulder pain, but also sharp, throbbing stomach/ bowel pain. Think I'll just take it easy today and rest. God bless each of you awaiting surgery today and the rest of the week. Keep us posted on your recovery. Has anyone else had hot-cold issues? One minute I'm cold and the next I'm hot as hades. Very confusing.

Need some suggestions....I'm 6 days post op and feel like I'm struggling! I am basically living on SF pudding and juice. I've tried a couple different Protein Shakes since I've been home & they make me gag! I've gotten some cream Soups down but I don't like them. I'm just feeling a little down. I can start puréed food tomorrow so I'm hoping that will help.

MGR1852

My experience has been similar to yours. I gag on most of the tastes of Protein supplements. I tried a Protein Shake "Oh Yeah" bananas yesterday and it has gone down better. What kind of pureed foods are you allowed so soon? My Dr. has me on all liquids the first 2 weeks.

I am feeling weak, and dehydrated, but doing the best I can to keep moving forward. Hopefully the pureed foods are helping you!

Yes I get hot than cold..as I am healing it seems as if the incision pain is a sharp pain shooting right through the incision.

I've been feeling very cold lately and a little hot once in a while -- I also had my first experience with some mild stomach area cramping which I attribute to the fact that I drank my Protein Shake too close to bed time

It's hard to get down 2 Protein Shakes a day for me even tho I have no real issues swallowing... I will head out soon to pick up some Isopure clear and hope that helps me get in my recommended 40+ oz of Protein at this stage

I hear apple melon and grape flavored are pretty good

I meant 50-70g of Protein per day

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
