December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Recommended Posts

Hi there Sleevsters!!! Just realized there was a December group started...I'm on track for hopefully a December 5th surgery date woo hoo!!! I had researched long and hard before deciding on the sleeve (vs band) and feel so good knowing the sleeve is for me! I am so happy I did more research to find out all the issues people had/have with the band. Excited to meet some sleeve buddies for this new exciting journey!

Some background...I'm 38 years old 5'4 and 243 lbs. I've got 3 kids (16 years old, 4 years old and 10 month old baby girl)...full time radio account executive so time is really never on my side lol. I've had 2 csections so I'm hoping the recovery/pain won't be as bad. Although I've always been very active and eaten pretty healthy I have always battled my weight. I truly feel like this surgery will help me be the healthier thinner person I've always felt I should be. I'm doing this fir my family and now especially my baby girl. My question us I've spoken to a few people who have had surgery and gave only taken 1-2 weeks off. I see a few people getting approval from work for a leave of absence. How much time are people planning on taking? I've slated 11 days...hoping this is enough. I can work at my desk during recovery. Fingers crossed...lol

I am jealous of ANYONE having any time off from work! I have 2 part time jobs. One job, I only do twice a week and I know I will be able to take a week off from that (2 days). The other job, I work from home at the computer 4 hours a night 5 nights a week. I'm hoping ot have surgery on a Thursday and I'm going to have to try really hard to start back to work by Monday night, if not Sunday. Eek!

Oh wow so fast! I had Lapband before and it was piece of cake. Hopefully this won't be too bad and you can go back that soon.

I had my gallbladder out last year and it was awful! Unfortunately the usual pain meds don't work for me. I'm assuming this will be similar since they are both laparoscopic and little holes and a bigger hole...etc.

Hopefully they will understand and maybe I can spread my work out throughout the day instead of trying to sit for 4 straight hours. Who knows, hope for the best and expect the worst, right?!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
