Ok good morning!!! I'm getting the lap band ,but not sure if I should get it done while I'm in nursing school. I want to get it done over Christmas break which out for 3 weeks or should I do it another time ?

Have you been through the process and just waiting for a date?

If you've already been through the complete approval and pre-op screening process, three weeks should be more than enough to be back on your feet. You will just need to be prepared for the post-op diet limitations, and plan accordingly with your school schedule.

The best of luck to you!

Make sure you get the WLS that is best for you. Lot's of doctors are moving away from the band because the money is better with the sleeve, and less post op care. That doesn't mean you should do it though. Get as much information as possible about all surgeries and then go with what you are comfortable with.

Most bandsters go that route because it's the least invasive of the procedures. I myself am banded for that very reason and I needed to lose more than 100 lbs. In less than one year, I'm close to my weight loss goal and have met other goals already such as getting off my BP meds, and just recently, buying clothes in the misses department and not plus size. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Why does he think he's going to away with the band? That's the only surgery I would consider after being told that I would lose 75.% of my stomach. I was not a candidate for bypass surgery. I was afraid of bypass surgery as well eventhough I did not qualify for it.

I'm very happy with the band. Banded on 12/28/12.

It's too bad that some surgeons are taking the fast, easy way with WLS. I can't believe that they don't want to offer all of the best possible options to their patients. Limiting the options to just a couple of surgeries is, in my opinion headed for disaster. Everyone is different... I chose my band for a long list of good reasons that apply to me after I thoroughly researched all of the options. We all should be able to do the same, health concerns allowing. Our bodies, our health care, our choice. Not what is the best choice for a surgeon trying to "push" a particular procedure for their own financial gain and convenience.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
