I'm in my second week post op. I began the phase two diet and I am hungry all the time. What can I do about this ? I was advised to only eat 12 ounces of food a day.

I assume you are on the mushy diet? I ate 2 oz 5 times per day and never had hunger. Do you have any Fluid in the band?

Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do about it. Hunger is normal, especially during the healing phase. You can increase your Protein to see if that helps but overall you just have to stick to your doctor's post op diet and white knuckle through it

I'm going to increase my Protein hopefully this helps. I don't have Fluid in my band yet. I'm scheduled for my first fill on 11/18/13.

Most of us don't after surgery- hence the raging hunger.

When I was on the post op diet, I spread out my food so I could eat every 2 hours and got as much Protein as possible. I even added clear unflavored Protein powder to stuff like Soup just to try better control the hunger. It wasn't easy, but it's how I was able to stick to the diet plan and lose weight despite having an empty band.

Hang in there :)

I did not have any Fluid in my band and was one of the fortunate ones who did not get hungry until the end of week 3.

However, take that factoid away, hungar did eventually find it's way in. I find that days I managed to get optimal Protein intake in, I was much more satiated with my 3 meals than days I did not. That is because it takes the body longer to break down Protein and keeps is a longer acting energy source than say carbs.

Could you give us an example menu you have planned and perhaps we can add to it to help you make optimal choices :)

Protein shakes were critical at this stage as well :)

My goodness, that is VERY little! I can understand the 12oz rule once you're on solids but are you sure that's the case for liquids too?

I was told 64 ounces of Water / liquids daily. I only have a few more days on this diet then I move on to soft foods. (Phase 3))

I don't want to second guess you or your doctor, but is it possible they mean 64oz if liquids/water along with your "meals"? Most of us are told to drink 64oz of Water daily forever because hydration is so important. I can't help but wonder if that's what your doctor meant, to drink that much water along with your meals (even if they are liquid).

Honestly, if I were you? I'd call and ask. If you could start having a Protein shake with every meal, and a full 8oz one at that, it would help your hunger A LOT.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
