I have been looking for a Forum to discuss questions about Lap band because I always feel bad calling or emailing the Dr for simple questions. Anyways on to my story.

I am a 29 y/o father of 2 boys. I have been trying to lose weight for years and I have success but nothing that stuck. I started reviewing my other options outside of a diet. I needed something more permanent that I couldn't just stop. I found lap band surgery as an option but didn't know if I should follow through...Well on vacation my mind was made up for me when I was unable to enjoy something with my boys. It kind of hit home and my mind was made up for me. I then proceeded with the surgery.

I am now 5 weeks after surgery feeling great and down 54 lbs and 3 pants sizes. I am blessed to be having so much success so far but i know it is just the beginning. Looking forward to reading up on others success as well as struggles as I know I will experience my own.

Congratulations on your big weight loss!! I think it is great that you will now be able to do things with the boys. I know playing sports with them is important. I have 2 sons and 3 grandsons

No questions is off limits here. Just ask away.

Congrats on your huge life changing decision. You've done GREAT so far, and it sounds like you're well on your way.

I myself went back & forth about having surgery, for close to a year. During that time I thought "I can do this on my own". Well, I gained more weight, and finally decided to go through with it. At 58 years old, I've lost and gained 100s of pounds, and given my age, had the health issues that go hand in hand with obesity. I've lost 54 pounds since March, and I feel like a new person (aside from the 58 y/o aches & pains). I'm 21 pounds from goal, and for the first time in many years, I feel hopeful :)

Welcome to the group, jnewman! We're here to answer any questions you have. Or, simply to listen to anything you're going through.

What a great reason for getting the band! I can not imagine how hard it must be to have to tell your kids that you can't do something with them or for them. Congrats on taking a huge step toward where you want to be!

Congrats on a beginning well done. You have done wonderful. There is only more where that came from. No question is too dumb to ask if you really don't know.

Welcome to the group! I went back and forth with the decision to be banded as well. I kept thinking "I can do this." then I wouldn't do it. I was banded 9/11/13 and I am down 44lbs so far. My clothes hang on me...it's funny. And it's been so much easier than I had expected. I'm even off my blood pressure meds now!

So, ask questions. I've learned so much from this group. I get nervous if I don't check in at least once each day :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
