Affordable Care Act

Recommended Posts

In my profession, we rely on billing people's health insurance for services.....

The word going around the last few days is that 50% of all Americans will loose their present health insurance coverage within the upcoming year......the number can go as high as 80%

Primary reason is that the Federal Government has mandated that all Insurance companies must meet new federal mandates,,,,financially, the Insurance companies cannot meet all these mandate and stay in business....without raising premiums way through the roof....they will simply stop underwriting policies leaving people with no option other than sign up for the federal program...

What bothers me is that when all this was being debated, people were told they would be able to keep their present Dr.'s and Insurance policies....unless congress makes some changes, that is not going to happen.....

Believe me, I'm seeing it with my insurance. My premiums didn't go up much, but my copays, dedudctables and out of pocket shot through the roof. People were warned that this would happen. I know some people who think they are pretty intelligent and argued like crazy for this thing. Now all I hear from them is complaining or they sit back and say absolutely nothing. Sometimes I think those people deserve what they get. Problem is, we all have to chew on this one.

The last time this subject was discussed on here.. Some of the people posted that we who opposed Obamacare were simply racists.. I was very offended by that remark. I am not and have never been a racists.. I treat all people the way I would like to be treated.. No matter what their color.. That being said.. I do not like the Socialistic nature of Obamacare.. It's going to be a train wreck.. There are so many bad things about this law.. I was very disappointed when the Supreme Court ruled it Constitutional.. Never in the history of our Country have we had a "Tax" levied on us to buy something we don't want..If it's so good why are certain people exempt (Mr. President?) Congress, Senate and Staff? I hope the political winds will blow in some new conservatives who will repeal or defund it. This is my belief and if you want to call me a racists for believing that Go for it.. otherwise, open your eyes and ears and minds.. It's not a good law never was and never will be.. God Bless America cause we need it..

Sharpie, I really hope that is not true. No one should be making those types of judgements here. There are obvious issues with this Healthcare plan and rather then berate our neighbors and fellow Americans, we need to be active and be in touch with our Congressmen and Senators and our President and let them know that they need to take up these challenges and not just argue them but DO something about them.

They are not allowed to hold our government hostage to get their points across, but they should be doing their jobs as we do ours every day to feed our families and pay our taxes. The bitching and moaning needs to stop and ACTION needs to be taken. Not just to fix the things that are popular, it is true that we might all be a bit uncomfortable with what results but change is never easy.

This is something we can all relate to!! Look how hard it has been for us to change and transform our lives and we have this awesome tool to help assist us. We have teams of medical doctors and insurance companies and support groups friends and family all helping us to change. Some of us make it, some of us flounder, some of us fail only to rise up and try again.

Don't judge others, we all have the same size yard stick and beating each other over the head with it won't change the facts. Putting them together instead of wielding them as weapons might....

I have faith that we can make things better, for ourselves with our conviction and perseverance and or the whole world using the same formula we use for ourselves it takes the courage to put it out there and do it.

There are always pioneers who lead the way and B-52 is putting it out there today, Hooray to you for calling out the issue. Missy..cheers for taking up the stick, count me in and let me know what I can do to affect some change!

My intent was and is not to debate whether the plan has merit or not....simply to inform people that your insurance WILL be changing, if it will be good or bad remains to be seen.....

But as it is going, only the wealthy and those lawmakers who gave themselves an exemption, will be able to afford standard traditional health insurance....

The worst administration EVER. And the man is a complete and total liar. I can't even get into this whole healthcare debacle. We've been through it many times in the forums, and I wonder, if based on where things are today, if voters would cast differently, given the chance.

Disclaimer:

I am not a racist. Just someone who is sick and tired of the continual BS coming out of the House.

Thank you for the info. But you have to know by now, based on history, that posting this info is going to open up a debate. It's a VERY heated subject; one that people feel very passionate about.

Sadly people weren't paying attention all along.. This was the biggest line of bull ever and the people who follow blindly are in for a rude awakening... unfortunately the rest of us have to suffer along with them...

Excellent article. Here's a portion and exactly what I've been saying. This is written right into the actual bill (which, btw, I read the entire 1000+ page bill in full).

"Four sources deeply involved in the Affordable Care Act tell NBC News that 50 to 75 percent of the 14 million consumers who buy their insurance individually can expect to receive a “cancellation” letter or the equivalent over the next year because their existing policies don’t meet the standards mandated by the new health care law. One expert predicts that number could reach as high as 80 percent. And all say that many of those forced to buy pricier new policies will experience “sticker shock.”

None of this should come as a shock to the Obama administration. The law states that policies in effect as of March 23, 2010 will be “grandfathered,” meaning consumers can keep those policies even though they don’t meet requirements of the new health care law. But the Department of Health and Human Services then wrote regulations that narrowed that provision, by saying that if any part of a policy was significantly changed since that date -- the deductible, co-pay, or benefits, for example -- the policy would not be grandfathered."

I agree. SO many bought the "dream", without drilling down to the harsh realities. We're in for a serious roller coaster ride.....which I hope, doesn't jump the tracks.

Oh let me chime in here on this: I have written to my Congressman and Senator both and gotten nowhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I agree with Sharpie, sorry. I am by no means a racist in any shape or form but this ACA is out of control. I did not get to keep my ins policy like Obama promised, my deductible increased $1000 which will never be met and will be the downfall of my funds coming in and my out of pocket was raised also. Not sure about the RX part of it, sure hope it stays the same as I'm on several meds and one cost $500 if you don't have ins and I simply can't afford that. It seems that our political figures in Washington don't listen to us little people. Enough said.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
