Lap Band prior to first fill

Recommended Posts

I was banded 3 weeks ago. I am to a point that I feel I can eat almost anything

without feeling any restriction. Is this normal because I lost my first 16 lbs right

away and now just trying to make good food choices so I don't gain the weight

back prior to my first fill. I am even getting hungry between meals.

It is very normal, however the band isn't supposed to physically stop you from eating anything. Have a look at this link. http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

I went through the same thing. I only got my fill Wednesday, because my surgeon could not access my port because of a hemotoma. I was starving, and I had to watch what I ate, because I was scared of gaining back the 24 pounds I had lost. Just choose your food choices wisely, and you will be fine. I went almost 3 months before I got anything in my band. Good luck, and just keep track of your calories and drink water!

I was banded on 12 August 13 and I still have not been banded! I'm not losing weight right now, but I am losing size, go figure. I've been seriously committed to working out so I'm chalking it up to building muscle. I no longer look like the Michelan Man, with all of those rolls!!!! I go back on on the 21st and the doctor said that he will most certainly put a fill in. I'm excited to kick my weight loss in gear. Hang in there, it is still really soon after your surgery, too soon to get a fill.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
