When does it become fun?

I wasn't a big fan of my "dreadmill" either!!! I joined Curves, and I really like that a lot. But I feel like I have to get ready to "go". My DH and I began a light free weight lifting program every other night here at home, and I love that. It kills me sometimes---but I like it anyway! Then we decided to buy an eliptical. When I first got it, 6 minutes was my max---and I would have to slow down to keep my heart rate in the right range...but now I am up to 35 minutes, and I can complete 2 of the preprogrammed workouts---I have 4 more to master. It also has 2 pre set heart rate workouts, you enter your target rate and it increases or decreases the resistance to keep you in the zone. You can purchase iFit programs for it, but I haven't really read up on what they offer. I watch Tv, or listen to my music---depends on what time of day it is---I do best if I am involved in something that takes my mind away from the fact that my thighs are screaming for mercy........

I will say knowing my DH is headed for the eliptical when I get off, and us lifting weights together, has made a big difference. Maybe it is having someone to do it with...could be part of the Curves appeal for me too. Maybe when you can get outside and walk, you could find a walking buddy?

Kinda wierd how that happens, respond to someone elses thread, and gain insight into your own situation in the process!!! Thanks!

Kat

I find it very helpful to have something to watch or listen to as well. The fitness center I belong to just opened up a brand new location that is very convenient for me- it is located between my work and my home, and each cardio machine has it own tv with somewhere around 70-80 different channels. I can usually find something that will interest me for 34-45 minutes and it helps the time go by faster. It is also nice when the machines count the calories burned as well, I find myself going a little bit longer just to burn another 25 calories! It is also important to get some weights in 2-3 times a week. A pound of muscle helps you burn more calories than a pound of fat does!

I am not banded yet, but have been working out for a year and a half. I try to do cardio (elliptical or treadmill) for 40 minutes now five days a week and work with weights two days. I hardly ever do all that, but mostly always get in four days a week and two half hour sessions with a trainer. I love it when I LEAVE the gym. I look longingly at those who are completed as I walk in, but I have to say that it really gets better, I am loggy when I don't work out. The discipline helps me psychologically and with my eating. I am happy that I have a layer of muscle going into the banding surgery that will help my body adjust to a lighter weight and look better. It really is worth it. Even if I never lost an ounce, working out isn't something that I will ever give up. I started out at three minutes on the elliptical and my heart rate was way up there. This is a place to map progress too.

So yesterday I woke up in a pretty bad mood. It has just been a bad week in general. I got on the treadmill and I was actually pissed that I had to get off after 3 miles because I had to get ready for work. Weird stuff. I have been using my Ipod lately and I think it is working much better than the tv is. I am kind of wanting to leave work and go walk. I hope this lasts.

I'm swimming, I trying to keep the schedule of 3 time a week. The part that really is tough for me is standing in the gym drying my hair - all the "little people" look at me! I guess I'm paranoid!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
