The Mental Side

Recommended Posts

I am curious of how many post op plicaters include some component of psychological care/treatment in their program? The mental part of weight loss has to be the hardest part. If I go to Mexico for surgery there will be no aftercare, what have other Mexican plicaters done post op?

I didn't go to Mexico, but I agree there is a mental side to this and I have a therapist I see 2x per month.

I had my surgery done in Mexico. I agree with tobethin30. It has been a tremdous help, this website and also obesityhelp.com Talking to others about our similar experience is so helpful. While there isn't a forum on obesityhelp.com for us plicationers, there is one for vertical sleevers. Our surgeries are so similar with the same way of eating. (Don't say that on that website though. They tend to get a little uppity about it and insist our surgeries are so different. Even had one act angry with me that I said they were similar. Oh well. You ignore the stupid people. After my surgery in Mexico I didn't feel lost or on my own. I went to a local support group for several months. While nobody had my surgery, we all have the same eating and emotional issues.

I agree,

there is a whole world of support on a blog site like this one. Where else can you talk with people who are going through the same kind of issues as yourself? Sometimes I think its better than a therapist.

Before I decided to have WLS, plication, I got to the psychological root of why I ate the way that I did and that helped tremendously, but also, I come to these boards as a way of continuing to learn more about myself. I find it so helpful to talk to others who are sharing this journey with me and feel thankful for everyone here who posts.

I would recommend keeping a journal of what makes you feel like you want to over eat or eat off the program. Therein lies the root of things. I don't mean to say this like it's going to solve everything immediately, but it is going to help begin that necessary journey *HUGS*

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
