How Far Post Op Are You And How Much Weight Have You Lost?

Recommended Posts

I just want to know how people are doing! I am a week shy of 6 months post op and I have lost 55 lbs. I am just curious to find out how other people are doing and where I fall in weight loss compared to the rest of you.

I feel like I should be losing faster, but I am the reason I am not! I go to the gym religiously 3 days a week and work out with a personal trainer. I should be going the other days and doing cardio, which I'm not :(. I also don't have the best diet. I am eating a lot less than I did before, but my choice of foods is not always the best. How are the rest of you doing?

My restriction is not like it used to be. But I'm not always eating like I used to eat either. I still try to start my day with strictly Protein so at least I can put off hunger until the afternoon. It is a day to day battle. I weigh myself every single day. If I don't I am afraid I will gain and not know it. I have to see every up and down. I have a few lbs I allow myself to be in. (160-163) My ultimate goal is 150 but just can't get there. Seeing how much work it is to stay where I am, I know it will be even harder to maintain at 150. So I'm not stressing out about not reaching my goal. I've gone from a size 24 to a 12. People say I'm thin enough. I really would like to be a size 10. Oh well.

Hi my name is Latonya and I tell ya me and u are doing about the same the Dr.office says I've lost about 45 -50 lbs but the scale at home says that I lost 80! Go figure I zumba 4* a week and find my self snackin on almonds and fruit a lot I feel like I should be losing more but I'm finding that I can fit clothing that I wore when I was 20 and in high school! So I don't know I had the vls

Latonya - how far out are you? I have been keeping track of my weight on my phone and because I'm in a research study I get weighed by my Dr every month. I go officially by their scale since that's where I started. I don't see the change so much in my clothes, but people tell me all the time that look thinner. I started at 268 and size 22-24. I am now a size 18-20 depending on the brand. I am getting frustrated that although 55 lbs is a lot, I think I should then be in a smaller size clothes. Congrats on being in the same size you were in HS!!! That would be amazing! I don't think I will ever get there because I was a size 8 and I don't think I could ever get that small at this point. I would be happy in a size 10/12. My biggest thing is being able to do all the fun things in life and not feeling self conscience! I am a big kid at heart and want to ride bikes, go to Water parks, ride carnival rides, horse ride again. My son turned 2 last sunday and we had his party at a bouncy house. I think I had more fun than he did playing ;-). I wouldn't have been able to participate 55 lbs heavier.

Julie- Do you mind telling me what weight you started at? You look great in the picture, so I'm assuming you stared at a relatively low weight.

I am 7 weeks out and I have lost 20 lbs. I'm with Julie, it is a day to day battle. For anyone who thinks plication is a quick and easy fix, it isnt. With the exception of the 1st week after surgery where I lost 7 lbs, I'm only losing about 1-3 lbs a week since then. I was exercising by the 2nd week just to keep the weight loss going. But I cant complain-although I feel like I have to fight for every pound, losing is losing. Before surgery I would work out like a crazy person and see no results so to finally see a 20 lbs weight loss is slow but good progress. And quite frankly, since no one but family and close friends know that I've had the surgery, people at work and other aquaintences are none the wiser.

Butterfly, I had my surgery done by Dr. Ponce, Chattanooga TN- Gastric Band Institute. I started at 252 and hoping to reach the 160-170 range. Seven weeks out I still do feel restriction and trying hard to keep it that way. I dont want my stomach to stretch so I eat very small portions throughout the day.

Ya, Beatrudz, my post could mirror yours almost word for word. I do NOT get on the scale every day like Juliehas6kids wrote. I don't wanna be bothered with eighths and tenths. I wanna see real whole pounds coming off so I restrict myself to 2 weighs per month. Last month I only lost 3 lbs. but it's entirely my fault for not being so 'good' sometimes.. some jelly Beans were irresistable, some passover matzos, some wonderful crackers from Whole Foods, cheeses that call my name ..but each day is a new day and each brings the chance to get it right and I do and I will as I never wanna carry so much weight around again. The hardest thing for me is to not drink during meals or shortly thereafter and in that respect, I've not been so good to me. I've lost 55 pounds, (in 7 months), so far and I really wanna lose half of me.

I was feeling smug because unlike some methods of WLS, like the band, there are many who can not and will never eat certain foods again, good stuff like chicken, and I was happy I wasn't one of them but having no dietary restrictions has its pitfalls too because I CAN eat anything..even what I shouldn't. But I WILL prevail! Failure is NOT optional. I AM the master (mistress?) of my own stomach.. blablabla.. Okay, Off my soapbox... I would love to chat with others who have been through this. I'm clovers@aol.com...live in Miami..well, 'exist' in Miami, anyway.......

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
